My husband and I went to Gwangalli and wanted some warm, clean pot rice, so I remembered how good Solsot was when I ate it in Haeundae before — and we headed to the Gwangalli branch 🍚

Inside Solsot Gwangalli: seating and atmosphere

The interior overall had a clean, tidy vibe. There were seats ranging from group tables to solo spots, the table spacing was comfortable for eating, and the calm atmosphere overall made it a pleasant place to eat ✨

When we visited there were quite a few foreign guests, and it was nice seeing the table next to us enjoying their meal too!!
Since Korean food is the main draw, it seemed like a good, low-pressure choice for when you're looking for somewhere to eat with parents in Gwangalli.

At every seat there were instructions in Korean and other languages on how to enjoy the pot rice, and you could scan a QR code for a video guide too — a nice touch ..🤍
What we ordered: hairtail pot rice and pork bracken pot rice with double pork
What we ordered at Solsot Gwangalli was the boneless hairtail pot rice, the pork bracken pot rice with double pork added, and homemade fried shrimp.
The signature dish is the steak pot rice, but we'd had that on a previous visit, so this time we went for something new!

The steak pot rice was solid and easy to eat, mild in seasoning, so it went well with nurungji soaked in the broth.

The pork bracken pot rice combined pork with bracken fern for a light yet savory flavor 🐽 The makjang sauce that came with it really brought the pork + bracken + rice combo together — I'd definitely recommend adding it in!!

My husband, who eats a lot, added double pork to the pork bracken pot rice, so it came loaded with extra meat — which meant we got to share plenty of it haha
How to finish with nurungji and sungnyung
You scoop your own portion into the side plate provided, then pour broth into the pot with the remaining rice, close the lid, and wait 〰️

We added three spoonfuls of the nurungji on the table and mixed it in.
By the end of the meal, the rice has scorched into nurungji, and you can eat it with warm sungnyung — not your average barley-tea-style sungnyung but a broth with real umami, so good that you keep spooning up the hot liquid ❣️

The pot rice with boneless hairtail was easy to eat since the fish bones were already removed ㅠ,ㅠ Best of all, there was almost no fishy taste, and there were cooked potatoes under the hairtail too — the rice + potato + boneless hairtail combo was amazing!!!
And the nurungji-and-sungnyung finish was the real kicker.. it felt like eating ochazuke, which made it even more delicious.

The fried shrimp we had on the side was great too — crispy with plump shrimp and tartar sauce on top 🍤 A good side to order if pot rice alone feels like it's not quite enough 〰️〰️💘
Who Solsot Gwangalli suits best
Overall the food was solid without being over-seasoned, which I really liked, and being able to slowly enjoy warm pot rice was especially nice. Solsot Gwangalli's food is on the cleaner side, so it's good for visiting with parents too — if you're looking for a hearty, not-too-strong Korean meal in Gwangalli, I recommend Solsot Gwangalli.
