The best order for eating Korean pot rice

At Solsot Gwangalli you order easily by tablet, and they even teach you in advance how to eat the dish the right way, which gets you excited 🤩

✔️Mix the pot rice, then move it all onto the plate ✔️Pour in the broth, close the lid, and wait for the nurungji (scorched rice) ✔️Eat the rice first, then open the lid and enjoy the nurungji

Smart move ordering different dishes each so we could try a variety of flavors ‼️

The side dish sets differ slightly by menu, matched to go well with each topping.

Steak pot rice 17.9: the pick for meat lovers

Open the lid and the gorgeous steak pot rice appears 👀 They say it's made using the most tender, flavorful cut of premium beef, cooked briefly at high heat to lock in a rich, deep beef flavor 🔥

Steak pot rice with the lid opened

The steak pot rice set comes with the house special steak sauce, soy-pickled peppers, salted seafood, wasabi, broth, kimchi, and lettuce salad.

Side dishes served with the steak pot rice

Glossy, thick cubed steak finished with crunchy scallions, furikake, an egg yolk, and butter 🫶🏻

Cubed steak and egg yolk on the pot rice

A juicy bite of steak before it cools down 👅 cooked to medium, done all the way through, with the tenderness really coming through.

Mix the rice thoroughly, then move it onto the plate.

Eaten plain it's a bit mild, so add plenty of the umami-packed steak sauce! It's not a store-bought sauce but a house special one, with a savory finish that really stuck with me 💥

Beef plus wasabi — need I say more? If you're a meat person like me, definitely go for the signature steak bowl 🥩

Abalone pot rice 17.9: the seafood lover's favorite

With Wando abalone meat and innards separated — the meat cooked with the rice, the innards turned into a sauce — this abalone pot rice really lets you taste the ingredients' own deep flavor!

The set drops the wasabi and soy-pickled peppers, adding a special soy sauce and seasoned seaweed instead 😋

The abalone meat is chewy yet tender, with zero fishy smell, making it easy for anyone to enjoy!!

It's definitely cleaner-tasting than the steak pot rice, and my seafood-loving friend raved about this dish 🐽

The special soy sauce that comes with it is the highlight — great eaten plain, but wrapping it in the salty seaweed boosts the flavor even more.

Finishing with nurungji sungnyung, plus one tip

Next up: nurungji! Sprinkle the nurungji crunch prepared on the table into the pot, pour in the rich broth, and close the lid ~~

Open it up to steaming sungnyung ~~ 🤤

Nurungji crunch and sungnyung made with broth
Steaming sungnyung in the pot

A clean, not-too-strong broth with a warming taste that really settles the stomach!! It's even better topped with a bit of salted seafood 😇

Sungnyung topped with salted seafood

One tip though — since it can taste a bit burnt, don't scrape the bottom of the pot too hard 🥹 Once you've enjoyed the nutty nurungji, you'll walk away calling this a solid Gwangalli favorite for sure!
