When traveling, I tend to get moving early in the morning, so I looked for a brunch spot in Gwangalli that opens early. That's how I found Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch.

I already liked that it opens from 8am, but once I got there, the building itself was so pretty and the interior was totally my style too. The exposed concrete exterior, then inside — warm wood tones and huge windows — made it the perfect spot for a relaxed morning brunch.

One of the biggest reasons I picked this place: you can eat brunch starting from 8am.

When you start a Busan trip early in the morning, it's surprisingly hard to find a café that opens that early, but Famous Benny opens at 8am, so it was easy to eat breakfast and then head out.

What I especially liked was that it's not just simple bread or coffee — you can order proper brunch like French toast, toast, and egg dishes.

It seemed like a good option whether you take an early morning walk around Gwangalli and then eat brunch, or, like us, start the day with brunch first.

The building: what Famous Benny looks like from outside

When we arrived, the exterior alone already won me over. An exposed concrete building, large glass windows, and the FAMOUS BENNY logo placed neatly on it.

It didn't feel like a place decorated with a lot of extra stuff — the building itself was pretty, so photos came out well too. Even though it's tucked into an alley, the exterior really caught the eye.

From outside, the concrete gives it a calm, modern feel, but once you step in, the mood completely changes.

Inside Famous Benny: wood tones and floor-to-ceiling windows

The interior overall is warm wood tones.

Not just the tables and chairs but the whole space was matched in similar tones, giving it a calm, comfortable feel. Best of all, the space felt spacious and airy rather than cramped.

Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch uses both the 1st and 2nd floors, and personally I especially liked the mood on the 2nd floor.

There are seats right in front of the big windows, and with morning natural light coming in, the atmosphere was really great. There are plenty of photogenic cafés these days, but this felt more like a space that's actually good for sitting down and slowly enjoying brunch and coffee, rather than just being pretty for pictures.

There's a restroom inside, and baby chairs were also available.

We went with our kids, and this made things easier for us.

From toast to egg dishes to salads, the brunch menu was quite varied.

What we ordered was:

After eating, what I liked most was that nothing was overdone in flavor. Sometimes brunch dishes have sauces that are too strong, or are too sweet or greasy, making them hard to eat first thing in the morning — but this place had none of that.

The seasoning wasn't heavy and everything felt clean overall, so it was easy to eat even in the morning. That said, it wasn't bland either — each dish's flavor came through properly, which was satisfying.

The first thing that caught my eye as soon as the food arrived was the French toast.

It came piled high on the plate, topped with berries and seeds, so it looked gorgeous right away. It looked like it would be quite sweet and heavy, but eating it, it was less rich than expected.

It was good to share with other dishes and wasn't too much for the morning. It went even better paired with a cup of coffee.

We also ordered the ham cheese toast.

Ham and cheese tucked between golden-toasted bread — even the cut cross-section looked delicious. It's a familiar combo, easy to like across the board, and a sauce came served on the side so you could add it to taste.

If you'd rather have toast and coffee than a fancier brunch, this menu could be a good fit.

Bacon scramble toast, the most filling of the three

The bacon scramble toast came piled with plenty of scrambled egg and bacon on top of the bread, making it fairly filling among the three dishes.

The scrambled egg especially made it great to share with the kids, and they actually ate really well that day. We passed bites around and they finished almost everything.

We hadn't gone specifically to feed the kids, but they ate surprisingly well, which let us have a relaxed breakfast too.

Strong coffee that matched the brunch

And the coffee at Famous Benny was delicious too.

I especially liked the americano — it wasn't a weak, watery style but had a strongly present coffee flavor. Drinking a strong iced americano alongside brunch in the morning really worked.

We also ordered a vanilla latte and orange juice. Some places have great brunch but disappointing coffee — here, both the food and the coffee were satisfying.

I initially visited Famous Benny while looking for a brunch spot in Gwangalli that opens early. I chose it because it opens from 8am, but after visiting, the mood of the space actually stuck with me more.
