Today I'm sharing a pot rice place I visited for a Gwangalli lunch spot -

Why Solsot Gwangalli for an easy-on-the-stomach lunch near Gwangalli Beach
Solsot Gwangalli is a Korean pot rice restaurant on Gwangnam-ro, and this time I settled lunch with steak pot rice and sea bream pot rice. You know how it goes when you're in Gwangalli — always agonizing over what to eat for lunch. Right by the beach there are raw fish places and brunch cafés everywhere, but somehow there's never anywhere for a proper, easy meal 😂

In the past I used to just walk into whatever caught my eye and end up with a so-so meal, so this time I looked up a place people actually recommend for Korean food in Gwangalli beforehand and came here -

Inside Solsot Gwangalli: interior and space between tables
🏠 The space alone is a total win — as soon as you walk in, it's just so calm 🫧

The tables are spaced far apart too, so you don't have to worry about the next table at all — perfect for chatting. Photos turn out pretty too, so I'm saving this as a good spot for a Gwangalli date 💕
What we ordered: two pot rice dishes and the nurungji powder

🍽 We ordered two dishes! Steak pot rice and sea bream pot rice, split in half. Pot rice is cooked fresh once you order, so there's a bit of a wait — but you can really tell the difference with freshly steamed rice 👍

One unique touch was the nurungji (scorched rice) powder they gave us — makes the nurungji you make later ten times tastier!!

The moment you open the lid, steam rises with this savory smell spreading out — ta-da — we both let out a 'wow' at the same time 🤭
Steak pot rice at Solsot Gwangalli: the pick for meat lovers

First up, steak pot rice! Thickly sliced steak sitting on top of the pot — overwhelming just from the visual 🔥

The cross-section was a moist pink, just right to eat, and one bite in — not tough at all, chews soft and tender -
The meat juices and sauce soaked into the rice, so even a spoonful of rice alone tastes seasoned.. Pro tip: try a few pieces of meat on their own first, then mix the rest evenly with the rice!

Put a piece of meat on a spoonful of rice with a side dish and it's seriously filling — if you're a meat lover, just order this 🥩
Sea bream pot rice: clean-tasting with no fishy smell

Second up, sea bream pot rice! Golden-grilled sea bream sits on top of the rice, crisp on the outside and moist inside 🫧 I was a little worried it'd be fishy since it's a fish pot rice, but there was genuinely zero fishy taste — instead a clean, subtle umami spread through the whole bowl -

Gently break up the sea bream flesh with a spoon and mix it into the rice, and the fish oil coats each grain — savory, total win 💕

It's not spicy or heavy, just clean, so alternating with the steak pot rice kept things feeling fresh the whole meal! If you're going with parents or kids, make sure to include a sea bream pot rice! 🐟
Finishing with nurungji soup, the pot rice ritual

The highlight of pot rice is definitely the nurungji (scorched rice) - scoop the rice out into a bowl first, pour hot water into the pot, cover it, and by the time you finish eating, a savory nurungji soup is ready!

In what order should you eat pot rice at Solsot Gwangalli?
💡 Dropping all my tips
- Pot rice takes time to cook, so go with some time to spare rather than starving!
- If there are two of you, I recommend ordering one meat pot rice and one fish pot rice to share -
- Pour the water in right after scooping out the rice so the nurungji soaks just right!
- If it's a Saturday, I highly recommend the course of lunch here, a beach walk, then catching the Gwangalli drone show in the evening 🌊✨
A Gwangalli restaurant worth returning to with family
👨👩👧 The seasoning is mild and it's a pot rice menu, so it seems great for everyone from kids to adults to eat together! The sea bream pot rice in particular seems like it'd really suit parents' taste too, so I've bookmarked it to come back with family next time 🩰 If you're craving a proper, non-spicy meal in Gwangalli, this is a place I'd recommend for Korean food in the area -
