A year with a bob, and then the nana perm craving

It's been a whole year now since I caught 'bob fever.'

For a while I just thought bob hair itself looked pretty, so I kept it as is… but this time I finally caught the 'bob perm bug.' 😂

This bug is really something — once the thought of getting a perm pops into your head, it just won't stop. You keep searching for photos, looking for similar styles… and it doesn't go away until you actually go and do it.

Lately the nana perm style in particular kept looking prettier and prettier to me, so I searched around for ages. Rather than a bob perm with really strong curls, I wanted something natural and light — the kind of look where your hair falls prettily when you dry it!

After all that searching, the place I ended up visiting was Heeol Hair.

And personally, location matters a lot for a hair salon too — and this place passed that test as well! 🙆🏻‍♀️

For this perm, what I wanted was actually pretty specific.

It sounds simple when you say it out loud, but actually conveying exactly the style you want at a salon is harder than you'd think. I showed photos and explained this and that, and I really liked how, through consulting with designer Subin, we narrowed down the exact feel I wanted step by step. Heeol Hair's hair consulting — very satisfied!

After the consultation, what we finally decided on was a light-curl vintage perm plus a side bang that could be swept over! She took the vibe I wanted and shaped it in a natural direction without going overboard.

I'm someone who doesn't really like it when the curls in a bob perm come out too tight or too strong, so how strong the curl would be was a key point. With a bob, since the hair is short, even a slightly stronger perm can completely change your overall impression — and I was glad we could talk through even this level of detail during the consultation.

One designer, start to finish, in a quiet salon

One thing I personally loved about Heeol Hair was that the designer handled everything from start to finish herself! At some salons, the person in charge changes partway through, or you end up waiting around a lot — but this time, designer Subin carried out the whole process herself, which felt much more comfortable.

Another thing I liked was that the overall atmosphere was quiet. The time you spend getting your hair done at a salon is actually pretty long, and rather than a chaotic, noisy vibe the whole time, I liked being able to sit calmly and rest while getting my hair done. This kind of quiet healing time feels precious these days — it felt like I went to get my hair done and came back having had a little break too. 🫶🏻

Another nice touch: drinks and snacks were prepared, so I could nibble on something during the treatment, and she explained the progress and expected time along the way too.

One of the most frustrating moments at a salon is thinking 'what's happening right now…?' or 'how much longer do I have to wait…?' — but since she explained what stage we were at and how long it would take, waiting felt much easier.

For all these reasons, it was a salon that just put me in a good mood.

And honestly, the biggest reason for this visit was, well… to cure my bob perm fever. 🤣 After keeping the bob for a year, I thought I'd just gotten used to it — but adding one perm gave it a totally different feel, which was a great way to refresh.

What I especially wanted wasn't a style that screams 'I got a perm!' but one where the curl comes in naturally and makes the volume and silhouette of my hair look pretty — and I was satisfied that I could fully talk through the direction I wanted during the consultation.

She took care of moisture care, protein care, and coating care, and taught me really well how to dry and style my hair. Hearing that I should let it air-dry made me so happy 😆 drying my hair was such a hassle! Note to self: make sure to fully dry the front section first.
