Today I went on a little weekday lunch outing near Jeongbalsan Station! I wanted good Japanese food, so my friend and I (two adults) headed to Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch, famous as a go-to sushi spot in Ilsan 🍣✨

Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch shows off a clean exterior right in the Western Dome tower building! The sign is easy to spot, so even first-time visitors can find it quickly. The neat, tidy look gave a nice first impression.

Parking note: there's a large parking lot in the building! Just let them know after your meal and they'll register your parking for you, making it a convenient spot to drive to in Ilsan Western Dome 🚗

Amenities: high chairs are also available, so families with young kids can dine comfortably here too 👶

Inside Hwangje Sushi: seating and the self-serve bar

The interior was clean and hygienically managed overall! The bright, warm wood-tone interior stood out, and the tables were spaced comfortably apart.

From bar seats good for solo dining to 2-person and 4-person tables, there was a nice variety of seating — a comfortable atmosphere for a meal near Jeongbalsan Station 🌿

There are even outlets at the single-seat tables!! You could charge your phone while eating, which is great haha

Basic self-serve bar: there's a neat self-serve bar set up on one side of the restaurant! Warm savory soup, sweet-and-sour pickled radish, extra tableware — you can help yourself to as much as you want, which was really nice 🥣

We visited on a weekday lunch and ordered the special sashimi bowl and the lunch set (sushi-udon meal)!

★ Impressive basic side dishes ★: at Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch, the basic sides included savory grilled salmon, crispy-warm croquette, and savory abalone porridge — all just as standard sides!!!

The rich flavor of the tender grilled salmon, the moist-inside-crispy-outside croquette, and the savory abalone porridge to warm up my stomach made for a very satisfying start 😋 Our ordered dishes came out quickly, and doesn't the spread look generous and delicious? Haha

Weekday lunch set: 6 pieces of sushi plus half udon

This popular lunch set nails both value and generous portions! It comes with 6 neat pieces of sushi plus warm half udon.

6 pieces of sushi: you could tell the freshness of the fish just by looking! The fish slices were really thick, and the balance with the shari (sushi rice) was just right. The moment I took a bite, the chewy, savory texture of the fish filled my mouth — I immediately understood why this place is called a top Ilsan sushi spot 😋 The in-season redlip croaker and squid sushi came topped with seasoned abalone, giving it a rich, savory flavor!

Half udon: even though it's the half portion in the set, the amount was just right and the broth was really rich and deep! The noodles were nice and chewy too, making it a perfect pairing with the sushi 🍜

How was the special sashimi bowl at Hwangje Sushi?

Just as I'd heard, the special sashimi bowl is stunning to look at! It came in a big bowl generously piled with fresh sashimi and crunchy vegetables — I gasped the moment it arrived 😲

Generous ingredients: it's packed with plenty of fresh, cubed sashimi!

Taste review: I drizzled on a moderate amount of chogochujang (vinegared chili sauce), mixed it all up, and took a big bite! The bursting texture, chewy sashimi, and crunchy vegetables were a perfect match. The portion is really generous, enough to fill up even grown men! If you're touring restaurants near Ilsan Lake Park, I highly recommend trying this 👍
