Dangsan bakery café window seats and iced Earl Grey tea: BYWAY BAKERS

In short

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch is a bakery café on the first floor at 16 Dangsan-ro 27-gil, between Yeongdeungpogu Office Station and Dangsan in Seoul. On a weekend afternoon out with dad, the order was peach yogurt wakppu salt bread, a fig pistachio tart and an iced Earl Grey tea, eaten at a window seat. BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo made an easy weekend stop before a walk on toward the Han River.

I went out with my dad to Dangsan on the weekend. We got his glasses fitted and had a hearty lunch nearby. The weather was so nice that heading straight home after lunch felt like a waste.

Since we'd already come all the way to Dangsan, we decided to check out the Han River and take a slow walk. Before that, we stopped for coffee and dessert at BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch, a café near Yeongdeungpogu Office Station.

Where is BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo, and where can you park?

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch sits on the 1st floor of a building on Dangsan-ro 27-gil. The big BYWAY BAKERS lettering is visible from outside, so it was easy to find. This is a place I'd wanted to visit for a while — already a well-known bakery café, and I finally made it here.

Potted plants and small flowers out front give it a fresh feel despite being a downtown bakery. It's easy to reach from Yeongdeungpogu Office Station and walkable from Dangsan too, making it a good stop for dessert after a meal nearby.

Sign for nearby paid parking lots

Apparently you can't use the Hanuri Building parking lot right next to the store.

Nearby paid parking options listed were Dangsan Neighborhood Park public parking and Yeongdeungpogu Office Station transfer parking.

The interior is spacious and comfortable too, which apparently adds to its popularity.

What bread was on the display shelves?

Walking in, there was a much wider variety of bread than I expected. True to a bakery that makes many kinds of bread fresh daily, browsing the display was genuinely fun.

From baguettes and croissants to financiers and egg tarts, the selection was diverse.

They also sell a 5-piece financier set.

There were simple meal options too, like a chicken breast sandwich.

Showcase full of cakes and tarts

The showcase was packed with cakes and tarts, which made browsing even more fun!

Showcase of fruit-topped desserts

The fruit-topped desserts with their pretty visuals especially caught my eye.

This felt less like an ordinary neighborhood bakery and more like a dessert spot that really nails today's aesthetic.

Peach yogurt wakppu salt bread: cracking it open with gloves on

But the thing I was most curious about at BYWAY BAKERS was, of course, the wakppu salt bread.

True to its name, it's a salt bread you press with your hands for the fun of a satisfying "wak" crack. When you order it, they give you plastic gloves so you can press and crack the bread open yourself.

It's not just about selling tasty bread — turning the act of eating itself into a fun experience felt clever. Seeing it in person, it was immediately clear why this menu item stands out on social media.

Display of various types of wakppu salt bread

I picked the peach yogurt wakppu salt bread.

Peach yogurt wakppu salt bread in a pink fruit net

It was cute from the start — packaged in a pink fruit net so it looked like a giant peach. Yogurt cream was piled generously on top, with a peach placed at the center as the accent.

The salty character of the salt bread combines with the sweet yogurt cream for a sweet-and-salty pairing. Add in the fragrant peach flavor, and the balance was better than expected.

The texture was the most fun part. Crisp on the outside, soft inside with the cream. The fresh peach flavor cutting through in the middle gave it a different charm from a purely sweet dessert.

Pressing and cracking it open with the plastic gloves on, the crisp texture came through first. I thought this was a menu item famous just for the fun factor, but tasting it, the flavor was genuinely solid. Not just visually interesting — it nailed taste, aroma, and texture all at once.

The other dessert we picked was the fig pistachio tart. A small tart topped with a generously sized, ripe fig caught the eye from the showcase alone. Underneath the fig was a nutty pistachio note, setting it apart from an ordinary fruit-only tart.

The tart shell had a nutty, firm texture. Paired with the soft, sweet fig, the combination worked well. It's compact in size but rich in flavor — a good dessert to enjoy slowly with tea.

For a drink, I chose a cold Earl Grey tea. The fragrant Earl Grey aroma rose up and refreshed the palate between bites of sweet dessert.

Sitting at the window seat, the green scenery outside made for a nice atmosphere. With the Earl Grey tea alongside the fig tart and peach wakppu salt bread, it made for a dessert spread perfect for a weekend afternoon.

Getting dad's glasses fitted, having lunch, and now stopping by this café in Dangsan made for a pretty solid weekend course.

Is BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo worth a weekend stop in Dangsan?

BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch isn't just a place riding on its reputation — the bread and desserts genuinely satisfied, making it a solid café near Yeongdeungpogu Office Station. The wakppu salt bread especially is worth experiencing at least once for the fun of cracking it open yourself. The peach yogurt wakppu salt bread I had this time stuck with me for its sweet-salty combo, fragrant peach flavor, and crisp texture.

The fig pistachio tart also paired the fruit's sweetness with a nutty flavor nicely. Adding the cold Earl Grey tea made for a good match too. If you're looking for something different in bread around Yeongdeungpogu Office Station or Dangsan, BYWAY BAKERS is worth a stop.

It was also a good place to fuel up before continuing a walk toward the Han River, which made it a satisfying weekend outing course. I'd wanted to come here for a while, and visiting in person, I get why it's so popular.
