Seoul coffee shop with a bean tasting zone in Mangwon: PICT Roastery
In short
PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is a roastery café right by Mangwon Market in Mapo, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Mangwon Station Exit 2. At the tasting zone you smell the beans before ordering, and this visit meant two americanos — one acidic bean, one nutty bean — plus the 24-hour aged French toast. The acidic bean kept a hand-drip level aroma, so PICT Roastery is a good place to work out your own coffee taste.

Last time I had such a delicious coffee and dessert experience at the Magongnaru branch, and when I heard they'd opened one in Mangwon-dong, I ran right over! Today I'm introducing PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch, a Mangwon-dong favorite right near Mangwon Market. Since it's a roastery café, the smell of the beans alone was a different level.

Where is PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch, and where do you park?
PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch is about a 5-minute walk from Mangwon Station Exit 2, so it's easy to get to. The round mirror and FIG TOAST poster on the brick exterior stand out, so it's easy to spot even from the alley. There's no dedicated parking lot though, so if you're driving, I'd recommend using a nearby public parking lot.

The tasting zone: smelling the beans before you order
The moment I stepped inside, the smell of coffee beans hit me — they use single origins and blends roasted in-house every week. There's a tasting zone where you can smell the beans yourself before ordering, and the variety was impressive, from the dark chocolate scented Midnight Cacao Blend to the peach-and-apricot Aricha Bouquet Blend, all the way to the decaf Brazil Cerrado. Little details like this gave off the vibe of a café that's serious about coffee.
The space has white-toned walls and wooden tables, giving off a cozy yet clean atmosphere. The round mirror on the wall and soft lighting made it great for photos too. There's bar seating by the window that looked perfect for working alone on a laptop. With its compact table count, it was just right for quietly enjoying a cup of coffee.

What's on the menu at PICT Roastery Mangwon Branch
Looking at the menu, besides coffee like americanos, vanilla bean latte, and black latte, there's a range of desserts too, like Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake and pistachio tiramisu. When I visited, there was also a seasonal fig French toast topped with figs, which I definitely want to try next time.

Acidic bean vs nutty bean americano: how they compared
I ordered two americanos, one with acidic beans and one with nutty beans, and the acidic one had hand-drip level aroma still alive, making it much more delicious. With the weather turning chilly lately, a warm cup of coffee felt even more welcome.

How the 24-hour aged French toast tasted
Since everyone else was ordering toast, I got the aged French toast too, and maybe because it's aged for 24 hours, the crispy outside and moist inside texture was impressive. Even though it's drizzled with syrup, it wasn't as sweet as I expected, so it was easy to eat without feeling heavy, and the toast itself was thick enough to make for a filling meal. I could see why it's known as a dessert favorite in Mangwon-dong.
