Gyeyang seafood restaurant for mulhoe and butter prawn heads: Muirang

When daytime temperatures are all over the place like they have been lately, you start craving spicy, sweet-and-sour, ice-cold mulhoe (chilled raw-fish soup), right? I heard there was a place where you could enjoy that along with seasonal grilled king prawns at their absolute best, so my husband and I dashed right over! This is Muirang Mulhoerang Hyoseong Direct Branch (무의랑물회랑 효성직영점), a Hyoseong-dong favorite in Gyeyang-gu where I totally fell for the more-than-expected seafood spread and flavor-packed sauce ✨

No matter how good a restaurant is, I hesitate to go if parking is difficult. This place has a large parking lot inside Masters Building, though, so it was really easy to drive there. Once inside, the tables were nicely spaced out with no cramped feeling at all, and the room was so comfortable.

Every table has a tablet PC, too, which was great because we could take our time looking through menu photos and order at our leisure.

To try both cold mulhoe and warm grilled king prawns, we ordered one serving of mulhoe and a small order of live salt-grilled prawns. These are the side dishes that came out!

They were neat and tasty! The seaweed soup was good too, haha.

Since the two of us were going to have grilled prawns too, we ordered only one serving of mulhoe, you know? But as soon as it arrived at the table, we were honestly so surprised.

Even for one serving, it was piled high with an abundance of fresh seafood!

A portion of somyeon (thin wheat noodles) comes with it! A staff member mixed it for us, so it was easy to dig right in.

The sauce here is especially the real deal. Its sweet-and-tangy, appetite-awakening savoriness made both our eyes light up.

Slurping up the corn somyeon soaked in broth with chewy seafood was absolute heaven!

There was such a generous amount of seafood too. Lots of sashimi as well!

Whenever mulhoe is on my mind, I’ve decided this is my go-to place.

Looking at the other tables, I saw that they give you a high-quality clam soup free when you order two servings of mulhoe! We only ordered one serving, so sadly we missed it, but next time we absolutely plan to order two and properly enjoy the clam soup too.

The small order of grilled king prawns we got with the mulhoe was also something you absolutely can’t skip! Just look at how fresh those prawns are. They were still jumping around!

The prawn roe was so big and plump

that every bite burst in my mouth with sweet flavor and juices.

When you have the grilled prawns, make sure to cut off and save the heads with scissors! After enjoying the plump bodies,

you can give the leftover heads to a staff member, and they’ll stir-fry them into fragrant butter-grilled prawn heads.

The crisp, salty buttery flavor was unreal—I ate them with genuine admiration.

Tips to know before visiting

• If you’re visiting as a pair, order two servings of mulhoe to get the hearty complimentary clam soup. Adding kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) noodles to the broth is practically essential!
• Join the receipt-review event easily through the tablet and be sure to pick up a refreshing Thungcan canned drink too.
• You can dine with your beloved dog as long as you follow pet etiquette, so check the notices before visiting.
