Pyeongtaek Korean restaurant for family hotpot: Songdam Kalguksu
In short
Songdam Kalguksu is a Korean restaurant in Anjung, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, serving beef hotpot kalguksu (knife-cut noodles). My family enjoyed two ₩8,000 servings with assorted vegetables, meatball dumplings, complimentary barley rice and corn bread, then self-made egg porridge. Songdam Kalguksu is a wonderfully filling choice for dining out with kids.

Stopping at Songdam Kalguksu before camping
This weekend, my husband, our child, and I decided to go on an exciting camping trip. You know what they say: food comes before sightseeing—before putting up the tent and getting everything set up at the campsite, we had to fill our bellies first, right? So Songdam Kalguksu was exactly where we stopped on the way!

A hotpot kalguksu menu picked for a family meal
Since we were all eating together as a family, choosing the menu was the most important part. We ordered beef hotpot kalguksu (knife-cut noodles; ₩8,000 × 2 servings), assorted vegetables (₩5,000), meatball dumplings (₩5,000), and self-made egg porridge to finish—such a satisfying spread.

Barley rice and corn bread are complimentary?
Not long after ordering, the basic side dishes arrived, and oh my goodness! Even if you order only kalguksu, they serve barley rice and corn bread for free?

These were truly the standout extras. Our child loved the soft, sweet corn bread, and mixing the barley rice with crisp yeolmu kimchi (young-radish kimchi), napa cabbage kimchi, and gochujang (Korean chili paste) got our appetites going before the main dish even arrived! They say a restaurant with great kimchi is a truly great restaurant, and this place passed the kimchi test from the start. 👍

Beef hotpot kalguksu with a clear broth
Finally, the star of the meal, beef hotpot kalguksu, arrived! First off, I loved how clear and clean the broth was. It was neither overpowering nor heavily seasoned, so it was easy to share with a young child.
Once the broth starts bubbling away, add the assorted vegetables and beef we ordered and enjoy them first, shabu-shabu style. The vegetables were so fresh and the beef so tender that even our child, who does not like vegetables, happily ate them with the meat.
After fishing out a good amount of shabu-shabu, it is time to drop in the chewy kalguksu noodles! As the broth reduces and deepens, the noodles soak up all that flavor, and somehow you keep slurping them down even when you are full... The portions were seriously generous—I could not help saying, “The owner is so generous!”
And please do try the meatball dumplings we ordered on the side! One bite reveals a filling absolutely packed with meat, with such a satisfying chew. They were juicy and savory, and a perfect match for the kalguksu.

Self-made egg porridge with two eggs
But is not porridge the true finale to kalguksu? After we diligently finished the noodles, we made the self-made egg porridge. Lots of places give you only one egg, right? Here, they gave us no fewer than two! That made the porridge much softer, richer, and more generous. We felt like we might burst, but still scraped up every last spoonful. 😂

A filling meal that was great with a child
Songdam Kalguksu was a place where both kids and adults could eat generously and happily, without any polarizing flavors! Because the seasoning is not strong, it is just right for a family meal with children. I would also really recommend it for a hearty meal before a trip or camping adventure, just like ours.
Clear broth, generous portions, and complimentary corn bread—perfect! It is a truly excellent restaurant to visit with a child. I think we will stop by again next time we come camping in this area. Our satisfaction level was 200%!
