While looking for a hearty meat restaurant near Pyeongtaek Station, I visited Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch. It opens from 7 a.m., so it looks like a good place for anyone wanting a filling meal early in the day, too.

It has held its place in Pyeongtaek for a long time, appeared on television, and was selected as a Baeknyeon Gage, or “century-old store.” Pyeongtaek Jumulleok is about 418 m from Pyeongtaek Station, around a seven-minute walk. It is also about two minutes on foot from the Tongbok Market Rotary bus stop, making it convenient to visit by public transportation.

There is no dedicated parking lot, though. If you have plans around Pyeongtaek Station, public transportation seemed more convenient than driving.

A solo meal set that feels easy to order alone

The menu that caught my eye was Pyeongtaek Jumulleok’s solo meal set for ₩10,000. You tend to think of jumulleok, spicy marinated stir-fried meat, as something for at least two people, right? Here, there is a menu you can comfortably order even when visiting alone, so it looked like a nice option for anyone seeking a solo meal near Pyeongtaek Station.

It also has an award history from the Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation, so I was quietly looking forward to it before going in.

Rather than feeling elaborately decorated, it has the comfortable character of an old neighborhood favorite.

Two servings of sweet-spicy duck jumulleok

We ordered two servings of duck jumulleok. It comes generously loaded with duck and vegetables in a sweet-spicy gochujang, or Korean red chili paste, sauce.

As you eat, they also add glass noodles as a complimentary extra.

In particular, this place uses smoked duck, so a subtle smoky aroma rose up as it began to cook. The gochujang seasoning was bold, but it did not overwhelm the smokiness, and the two worked really well together.

As the vegetables cook and their juices soak into the sauce, the flavor becomes gentler than it was at first.

The glass noodles soaked in the jumulleok sauce were a quiet little highlight.

Meat, then glass noodles, then another spoonful of rice—I just kept reaching for more, haha. Picking up a piece of duck with vegetables made it sweet-spicy and moist, and naturally had me wanting rice.

Eating it with black rice made the meal even more satisfying.

A full spread with shrimp jang and vegetable sides

It also came with shrimp jang, soy-marinated shrimp, and vegetable sides such as seasoned bean sprouts, so it genuinely felt like a home-style table spread. I loved that it was not only the main dish that stood out—the side dishes kept drawing me in as well.

The side dishes were served neatly, too.

Instead of a flashy spread, the familiar side dishes felt like the kind you would eat at home, and they went well with the jumulleok. I especially liked pairing the duck jumulleok with shredded radish. Its fresh flavor tidied up the palate after the sweet-spicy seasoning.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary doenjang jjigae, soybean paste stew. Seriously, that stew was so delicious~

I’ll have to come back next time for the Honghaetang~ This was a place where I enjoyed generous sweet-spicy duck jumulleok in the relaxed atmosphere of an old neighborhood favorite.
