Giant planet balloons at a Daejeon kids' science show: Magician JT

This weekend I took the kids to see Magician JT's Science Lab.

It was a magic show built around scientific principles, and the kids' eyes went wide the whole time — here's my review!

Where the show is: the small theater at Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center in Seo-gu, Daejeon

This run of Magician JT's Science Lab was held at Pyeongsong Youth Culture Center on Dunsan-daero in Seo-gu, Daejeon. It took place in the small theater, and parking is available.

It was held in the small theater — the whole walk from the car to the theater, the kids were buzzing with excitement about seeing a magic show.

First-come seating at Magician JT's Science Lab — go early for front-row seats

We took our tickets and went into the theater. The show started at 2, and since I got in around 1:50, we ended up in the back. Seats are assigned on a first-come basis, so I'd recommend arriving early to sit up front.

This is the screen before the show started. It showed fun pictures and quizzes the kids could get into, so waiting wasn't boring at all.

What happens in the show: a trick, the science behind it, then a bigger trick

The show finally began!

Magician JT came out. The kids screamed so loud when he appeared that I got excited too.

Then, with his friend Toto, he performed magic tricks, explained the science behind them, and followed up with even more surprising tricks.

Principles like static electricity and differences in air pressure and temperature weren't just explained in words — the kids got to see them happen right in front of them, and they loved it.

Near the end of the show there was a segment where giant Earth- and Mars-shaped balloons were passed around, which the kids really loved.

There was also an LED show, which amazed the kids. I believe science shouldn't just be difficult theory to memorize but something to see and experience firsthand, so this magic show with the kids was really satisfying. Plus, since it's an audience-participation show, kids, moms and dads can all get involved in different ways.

Was it worth it? Fifty minutes that flew by

Magician JT's Science Lab was a magic show built on scientific principles, letting us hear friendly science explanations and then watch them play out with our own eyes. With so many chances to participate, the 50 minutes flew by before I knew it.

Science became a fun, fascinating experience rather than something difficult. If you're looking for a show to watch with your kids, I recommend Magician JT's Science Lab!
