Suwon pizza restaurant for steak burrata pizza: The European
In short
The European Haenggung Main Branch is a wood-fired pizza and Italian restaurant near Hwaseong Haenggung Palace in Suwon, Gyeonggi. I had its steak burrata pizza at a window seat on a weekend afternoon, and loved the crisp-chewy crust and generous toppings. Verdict: a satisfying Haenggung-dong date spot even for pizza lovers.

A great wood-fired pizza spot in Haenggung-dong

The European, a popular Haenggung-dong wood-fired pizza spot with its main branch in Gwanggyo, sits right in front of Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Palace. It is at the entrance to Haenggung Craft Street, so it was easy to find and visit.

There is no dedicated parking lot, so if you are driving, use the Hwaseong Haenggung roadside parking lot. The European is just a three-minute walk away—right nearby!

Even the oven here is something special. They use a Stefano Ferrara wood-fired oven officially certified by the Naples Pizza Association, apparently.

The European is known for its chewy dough 🍕 They make their pizzas with dough that undergoes 18 hours of low-temperature fermentation and 24 hours of aging. A wood-fired pizza baked with oak logs—I was so excited.
A spacious interior with an elegant old-world feel

Once inside, I could feel the elegant old-world atmosphere. Sunlight streamed in through the large windows, making it perfect for a lunch date! The muted wood furniture and ceiling chandeliers made me feel as though I had stepped into an upscale European restaurant.

Further inside, the space was much larger than it looked from outside. There were also privately separated areas, so it seemed great for groups or gatherings. For private-room reservations for eight or more people, please call to inquire.

So this red oven is the one that makes such amazing pizza, right? 😋

This Haenggung-dong pizza spot has no break time, so it is easy to visit whenever you like. We arrived around 4 p.m. on a weekend, when there were plenty of open tables, and chose a window seat. High chairs are available and the tables are generously spaced, so I recommend it as a Haenggung-dong restaurant to visit with a baby.
Ordering the steak burrata pizza

Once seated, we chose from the menu and ordered via QR code.

This Haenggung-dong Italian date spot has three signature menu items!
- Jambon truffle funghi pizza
- Arugula jamón burrata cheese
- Steak burrata pizza
After much deliberation, we picked the signature steak burrata pizza ✔️ Along with pizza, they offer a variety of Italian dishes including pasta, gnocchi, and pork ribs, making it just right for a Haenggung-dong date.

Because each pizza is made to order and baked in the wood-fired oven, it took about 10 minutes for our food to arrive. It came with thinly shredded radish pickles, which had a charm quite different from ordinary pickles. They were great for cleansing the palate between bites of pizza.

The toppings were so generous—juicy steak, arugula, tomatoes, mushrooms, and more—that it looked filling at a glance. A large ball of burrata cheese sat in the middle too, making it such a pretty pizza 🍕

The pizza arrived cut into four slices, and each slice was huge—about 1.5 times the size of a regular pizza slice!

As you would expect from wood-fired pizza, the dough was seriously delicious. It was crisp outside and chewy inside; I usually do not eat the crust end(?), but at this Haenggung-dong pizza spot, the crust is the real deal haha.

The fresh arugula aroma was lovely, and the sauce was not overpowering, so it was perfect for a brunch-like meal. One whole pizza was more than filling enough for two adults. ✨
If you are looking for a truly good wood-fired pizza spot in Haenggung-dong or deciding on an Italian date venue, visit The European Haenggung Main Branch. Even a discerning wood-fired-pizza lover was satisfied here 🤍
