Raw beef cold soup restaurant in Gasan, Seoul: dinner at Yukhwang
In short
Yukhwang is a Korean restaurant specialising in hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef) and gomtang (beef bone soup), a 5-minute walk from Gasan Digital Complex Station in Geumcheon, Seoul. On a Wednesday evening a couple ordered yukhoe bibimbap, hanwoo yukhoe mulhoe (raw beef in chilled broth) and a side plate of yukhoe, finishing the somyeon noodles served with the mulhoe and then adding rice to the leftover broth. Yukhwang is an easy recommendation in Gasan whenever you are craving something raw.

Today at work, something raw suddenly sounded really good at lunch. So on the way home I talked my wife into going to Yukhwang, a well-known spot in Gasan Digital Complex.
Where is Yukhwang, and is there parking? 5 minutes from Gasan Digital Complex Station

The restaurant is right at the front of the building, so it wasn't hard to find at all. You can spot the Yukhwang sign from far away, haha.

True to its reputation as a top yukhoe spot in Gasan, the place was packed even on a Wednesday evening.

What we ordered at Yukhwang: yukhoe bibimbap, yukhoe mulhoe and a side of raw beef
We ordered yukhoe bibimbap and yukhoe mulhoe, plus a side plate of yukhoe. We came for the yukhoe, but it turns out this place is also famous for its gomtang (beef bone soup). I'll have to come back for that next time, haha.

They're also running a review event right now. You can join both the Naver and Instagram versions together, so make sure to take part and get some suyuk (boiled beef) and yukhoe!!

Yukhwang's side dishes: the octopus jeotgal (salted seafood) steals the show
Right after we ordered, the side dishes were set on the table.

The seokbakji (radish kimchi), which they say they make fresh every day, was tasty, but personally this octopus jeotgal (salted octopus) blew me away, haha. Eating it with the bibimbap is absolutely amazing...

Maybe because it's such a popular lunch spot in Gasan Digital Complex, the food came out really fast. Perfect for eating quickly on a lunch break and getting a little rest, haha.

The side plate of yukhoe at Yukhwang, and why the sesame oil dip matters
Beautifully glistening, fresh yukhoe. I gently mixed in the egg yolk.
The yukhoe was so chewy and fresh it melted in my mouth!! I came because I was craving something raw, but I didn't expect it to be this good, haha. Confirmed: a genuine must-eat spot in Gasan Digital Complex!!

It's delicious plain, but dipping it in Yukhwang's special sesame oil sauce brings out an even deeper flavor.

Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap and the beef and radish soup that comes with it
The hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap, with the deep flavor of fresh yukhoe running through it.

Given how much yukhoe was piled on top, the price felt really reasonable. Insane value for money!!

The beef radish soup that came with the bibimbap was surprisingly delicious. It pairs perfectly with the bibimbap. If the soup was this good, the gomtang must be amazing too?? Haha. The broth was really rich, and since the beef was hanwoo, it just melted in my mouth.

The sauce comes pre-added at first, and if you need more, they'll bring extra on request. We didn't need to ask since the initial amount was plenty. You could really taste the fresh crunch of the vegetables against the deep flavor of the yukhoe — genuinely delicious.

What does hanwoo yukhoe mulhoe taste like? Somyeon noodles included
A refreshingly cold hanwoo yukhoe mulhoe. It was so packed with yukhoe and vegetables that it was hard to even mix, haha. Truly insane value for money, wow.
The yukhoe mulhoe comes with somyeon (thin wheat noodles) as standard. The portion was bigger than expected too.

First, a bite of the cold yukhoe mulhoe. It had a completely different flavor from the plain yukhoe and the bibimbap. The yukhoe had soaked up plenty of the cold broth, so every bite had deep flavor, and it was so chewy and delicious, haha.

It would've been nice with a drink but... I'm on a break from alcohol, so I went straight for the noodles.

I love raw dishes, so I eat regular mulhoe often, but this was my first time trying yukhoe mulhoe. Even as a first try, it felt similar to regular mulhoe, so it was really tasty, haha. It has that same chewy texture as regular mulhoe, so if you're a mulhoe lover like me, you'll probably really enjoy Yukhwang's hanwoo yukhoe mulhoe too.

While working through the bibimbap and yukhoe mulhoe, we kept wrapping up bites of the side plate of yukhoe too. This would honestly be the perfect drinking snack...
Finishing the meal with rice stirred into the chilled mulhoe broth
The mulhoe broth was so good we added an extra bowl of rice.

It's basically an unwritten rule to add rice to the mulhoe broth after finishing the noodles, haha. It's great with noodles, but mixing in rice was genuinely delicious too. Glad we saved some vegetables and yukhoe on purpose for this final round.

We scraped up every last bite of the yukhoe too, haha. When you're craving something raw, nothing beats yukhoe!! Highly recommend Yukhwang if you want fresh, delicious yukhoe near Gasan Digital Complex!!
feat. also a great pick for a company dinner near Gasan Digital Complex!!
