Yeonnam-dong café for matcha bread with peach cream cheese: Noknok

In short

Noknok is a large café in Yeonnam-dong, Mapo, Seoul, with two open floors of seating and its own bakery. On a visit with a friend I tried the peach cream cheese matcha milk bread and the matcha Noknok Cream Coconut Water, and it was striking how much of the bread had already sold out. For a sweet matcha combination with plenty of room to sit, Noknok is a good pick.

Noknok (녹녹) is a big café in Yeonnam-dong where you get a wide-open, airy feeling even in the middle of the cramped city, and where you can enjoy drinks and bakery items at reasonable prices. They say parking is available too.

Noknok, a large café in Yeonnam-dong

It had been a while since I'd had plans with a friend near Hongdae, so I searched for cafés in Yeonnam-dong. I found a café with the kind of wide-open feel that's hard to come by in Yeonnam-dong and went straight there.

Everyone has a hard time with parking when they come out to Yeonnam-dong, right? Noknok has parking in the space beside the front of the café! On top of that, they say it's a dog-friendly café, so if you'd like to make memories together with your beloved pet, you're welcome to come along too.

If you look up Noknok's menu on Naver, this is the menu image that comes up. But once you actually walk into the café, there are far more menu items and breads.

I visited after lunchtime. The breads were almost all sold out. Just how good must they be to have sold out already?!!! Curious, I quickly picked out some bread.

Bread left at Noknok's bakery after lunchtime

Among them, they said a new Topping Wareureu Jjondeuk Sikppang (a chewy milk bread heaped with toppings) had just been released!! They recommended I definitely try it, but after much deliberation I went for the peach cream cheese matcha milk bread, which wasn't in that menu photo.

How the peach cream cheese matcha milk bread tastes

Doesn't it look absolutely delicious? It looked so good I wanted it in my mouth right away, so I cut into it and ate it... and ended up not taking a photo of the cross-section!! Inside the green, green matcha milk bread there was plenty of sweet peach cream cheese. Matcha + peach + cream cheese, delicious things combined with more delicious things!! It was a combination that couldn't possibly taste bad.

Matcha Noknok Cream Coconut Water

Noknok's signature drink, the Noknok Cream Coconut drink, comes with a choice of matcha or mango. I went with matcha. There was none of the bitterness you get when matcha is ordered wrong, and drinking it with the sweetness of the coconut, it honestly put the big franchise cafés to shame. And I have a lot to say about the americano too.

Takeout americano sign

A takeout americano for ₩1,900, visible right from the entrance??!? At a price that low for Yeonnam-dong I had my slight doubts about the beans... but sure enough, it was a coffee full of flavor that brought out the natural taste of the beans.
