Gyeongju café for fresh chocolate mochi, cooler-bag packed: Tareudang
In short
Tareudang is a takeout fruit mochi dessert café in Hwangridan-gil, Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. I packed mango, golden kiwi, and fresh chocolate mochi; the fruit varieties were moist and mild, while the chocolate one was intensely rich. Verdict: a fun, easy snack to pick up while exploring Hwangridan-gil.

Hwangridan-gil is an unmissable stop on any Gyeongju itinerary! While wandering through its alleys, I happened to stop in my tracks after being drawn in by a colorful, pretty display. It was Tareudang, a Gyeongju shop specializing in fruit mochi! I picked three flavors—mango mochi, golden kiwi mochi, and fresh chocolate mochi—and I’m going to tell you how they were. Let’s go 🥭🥝🍫
Tareudang in Hwangridan-gil: Location and Parking

As everyone knows, it can be really complicated for cars to get into the alleys of Gyeongju’s Hwangridan-gil, right...? ㅠㅠ Parking near Tareudang is inconvenient too, because that’s just the nature of Hwangridan-gil. It’s best to park at a nearby public lot or take public transportation and walk over. As you stroll through the alleys, its neat, charming exterior really catches your eye, so it’s easy to find.

Since it’s a Hwangridan-gil dessert café that specializes in takeout, it had a compact and adorable feel. It’s the perfect dessert to enjoy as street food while exploring the nearby alleys, or to take back to your accommodation for a snack!!

You can get a cooler bag through the review event, too!! I loved not having to worry about the mochi spoiling before I got back to my accommodation. Haha, I wrote a review and packed mine in a cooler bag too >_<
The Mochi Flavors I Chose and the Takeout Packaging

There were so many kinds of mochi. Among them, I chose some fruit mochi flavors that I love and the one chocolate flavor that stood out.

My Tareudang fruit mochi from Gyeongju is all packed up! Off I go to eat it with excitement. . ♡

- Mango mochi
- Golden kiwi mochi
- Fresh chocolate mochi

How Moist Was the Mango Mochi?
First, I took a bite of the mango mochi, with its lovely yellow color. The mango itself was quite juicy, so even the glutinous-rice cake was moist and soft all the way through! The fruit was soft and tender too, so everything chewed together without any awkward contrast in texture.

The Bright Tang of Golden Kiwi Mochi
Next was the golden kiwi mochi, and the kiwi’s signature tangy, refreshing juice seemed to burst through my mouth! The fruit is naturally full of moisture, so it goes down softly without feeling dry in your throat. I liked that it wasn’t overly sweet; the fruit’s own natural flavor lingered gently.

Is the Fresh Chocolate Mochi Richly Chocolatey?
The fresh chocolate mochi I tried last had a completely different character from the fruit-filled kinds! The moment I bit into it, a deep, weighty chocolate flavor came rushing in. Rich chocolate flavor filled the space between the chewy glutinous-rice cake, so I recommend it to anyone who loves chocolate.
My review of Tareudang in Gyeongju’s Hwangridan-gil

Tareudang in Gyeongju is a great fruit mochi spot where the fruit’s naturally moist texture really shines through. 🥭🥝🍓 Overall, these Hwangridan-gil desserts weren’t excessively sweet and let the ingredients’ own flavors come through in a clean, understated way. If you’re looking for an unusual little snack to casually stop by for during a Gyeongju trip, keep this one in mind! Today’s delicious Gyeongju adventure is over!
