Cheonho Station gukbap restaurant, spicy vs regular: Boseung Hoegwan
In short
Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is a 24-hour sundae gukbap (pork and blood sausage soup) restaurant in Gangdong, Seoul, a 1-minute walk from Exit 3 of Cheonho Station on Line 5. On a weekday visit around 1pm, the regular sundae gukbap and the spicy sundae gukbap were ordered side by side at 11,000 won each to compare broth colour and heat, and the napa cabbage kimchi from the free side dishes was so good it was finished before the soup. The broth at Boseung Hoegwan is rich with no gamy smell and packed with ingredients, making it an easy choice for solo diners or a meal with a drink.

I visited Boseung Hoegwan, a sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup) restaurant that's open 24 hours!

Where is Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch, and when is it open?

The entrance to Boseung Hoegwan

Since it's open 24 hours, it's great for office workers grabbing a hearty lunch on weekdays, or for a first-round dinner-plus-drinks spot late at night!
Is there a waiting area?

There's a waiting zone set up right before you enter the restaurant!✨
Inside Boseung Hoegwan: is it comfortable for solo diners?
Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is spacious with plenty of seating. It's a comfortable space where you can dine solo without feeling self-conscious, or come with a group for a hearty meal✨

We visited around 1pm on a weekday, just past the peak lunch rush, so luckily we were seated right away with no wait~
Boseung Hoegwan menu and sundae gukbap prices
You order via the tablet at each table. Alongside the tablet, there's also a neatly organized double-sided paper menu, which made it easy to see everything at a glance!

Besides the signature sundae gukbap, there's a range of options to suit different tastes — naejang gukbap (intestine soup), ppyeohaejangguk (pork bone soup), haejang ramyeon (hangover ramyeon), osori gukbap — plus a great-value "sundae and pork jowl meat set," cold noodles like mul-naengmyeon, bibim-naengmyeon, and pollock-sashimi naengmyeon for hot days or a craving for cold noodles, and various sides you can easily add on, like sliced boiled pork, charcoal-grilled meat, sundae plate, and mul-mandu (boiled dumplings)~

Free side dishes: the napa cabbage kimchi is legendary
Boseung Hoegwan's basic side dishes are kkakdugi (radish kimchi), napa cabbage kimchi, chives, and salted shrimp. Opening the drawer next to the table, the spoons and napkins were also neatly arranged✨

This is my N-th visit to Boseung Hoegwan, my all-time favorite gukbap spot, and the napa cabbage kimchi is legendarily good, seriously guys,,,👍🏻 I finish the kimchi before I even touch the soup, it's that good!!!
Sundae gukbap vs spicy sundae gukbap: what's the difference?
I always go for the regular sundae gukbap, and my boyfriend said he'd get the spicy one, so we ordered one of each. Placing the two bowls side by side, the color difference was pretty striking (as someone who can't handle spice, spicy is off the table for me...🥵)
Not long after ordering, the soups arrived still steaming~

It tastes best once you stir the chili paste in well, so I gave it a light stir with my spoon and found it packed with tender meat and thick chunks of sundae~

Tips for eating sundae gukbap🌟
- Load up generously on the chives that come as a side dish
- Fish out the hot sundae and meat onto the rice bowl lid to cool them first, then dip lightly in salted shrimp!
- Mix rice into the leftover broth and stir well
Verdict: which gukbap should you order at Boseung Hoegwan?
I've been to countless gukbap places, but Boseung Hoegwan's soup is incredibly savory and clean-tasting, right up my alley! Rich broth with no gamy smell, generous ingredients, and truly delicious napa cabbage kimchi — it was a perfect meal:D❤️
- A 24-hour gukbap restaurant
- Spacious dining area
- Great value for money
