Gangdong gukbap restaurant, pork-neck set for two: Boseung Hoegwan
In short
Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch is a 24-hour gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant a 2-minute walk from Cheonho Station Exit 3 in Gangdong, Seoul. The writer ordered the sundae (Korean blood sausage) and pork-neck set for two, swapping the gukbap for ppyeo-haejangguk (pork-bone soup) and taking one regular and one spicy bowl; the pork neck was meltingly tender and the spicy soup ran a little hotter than Shin Ramyun. Boseung Hoegwan works for everything from a full meal to a quiet drink with food.

Inside Boseung Hoegwan: seating and atmosphere

Boseung Hoegwan Cheonho Station Branch has a cozy vibe with warm wood tones and soft lighting. It's known as a good spot for solo dining after work as well as for group dinners, and I noticed it gets pretty busy in the evening!
The menu at Boseung Hoegwan and what the set for two includes

Alongside all kinds of gukbap, there were plenty of delicious options like sundae-gopchang bokkeum (stir-fried blood sausage and intestines), ppyeo-gamjatang (spicy pork bone and potato stew), and pork neck. Seasonal menu items include naengmyeon (cold noodles) and pollock naengmyeon, plus sides like sliced boiled pork and dumplings. We ordered the sundae pork-neck set for two, swapping in bone soup, and since you can choose the spice level, we got one regular and one spicy!
Which side dishes come with the meal?

The basic sides were well-fermented diced radish kimchi and deeply savory kimchi, and extra sides came right out when we requested them via the tablet order.
How was the sundae and pork-neck set for two?

The sundae and pork neck came out first. You simmer it a bit at the table to warm it up, and maybe because it's pork neck, it was incredibly tender! The sundae had no off smell and was nutty and delicious...
Ordering the sundae pork-neck set meant we got a hearty bowl of gukbap plus pork neck and sundae — a great combo.

The tenderness was noticeable even as I picked it up with chopsticks, and the moment it hit my mouth it was soft with a nutty richness — really delicious.

Eaten with kimchi, the savoriness deepened even more, so it never got repetitive to the last bite, and a spoonful of the rich broth was as satisfying as eating a long-simmered ox bone soup.

The sundae came with both white sundae and chewy sundae, clean and nutty without any heaviness. Dipping it lightly in the broth made it even softer and juicier!
Regular vs spicy pork-bone soup: which should you order?

Since Boseung Hoegwan's bone soup lets you choose regular or spicy, we ordered one of each! Personally, the spicy version felt a bit hotter than Shin Ramyun. It's definitely a spicy, gut-clearing kind of flavor, so if you like heat, I'd recommend it!

The bone soup came piled high in a stone bowl, with meat sturdily attached to the bones, looking hearty just from the sight of it. The thick cuts of meat pulled right off the bone, and eating just the meat alone was enough to fill you up...

The thick cuts of meat, soaked in the rich, spicy broth, topped with diced radish kimchi and eaten with rice — total rice thief, haha. After finishing most of the meat, we mixed in rice to wrap up the meal on a satisfying note.
