Gijang, Busan snow crab spot with plum wine before Chuseok

With Chuseok coming up, my sister came home for the first time in a while, so the three of us — me, my sister, and mom — went down to Gijang for some shopping and a little outing together :) 💗

Since it was a rare outing for the three of us, we figured we shouldn't just eat anywhere — we wanted somewhere good to take mom to. That's how we ended up at Gijang Myeongpum Daegae (기장명품대게) this time.

We drove, so parking was easy, but it's also walkable from Exit 1 of Gijang Station on the Donghae Line, so the location looked really convenient too!

If you look around for crab restaurants near Gijang Market, there really are so many of them. Since we were going with mom and my sister, we wanted somewhere clean where we could eat without too much chaos 💗

After parking and walking into the restaurant, tanks full of snow crab and king crab greeted us both inside and out 🤤🤤

Choosing a snow crab from the tank: weighed without the basket

We decided on snow crab ❤️ Gijang Myeongpum Daegae weighs by the actual crab weight, excluding the basket. Isn't the real weight of what you're buying more important than any extra service? It really felt honest 🦀

They said snow crab takes 25 minutes and king crab 30. We watched them carry off the crab we picked and headed to our table!

The ₩5,000 setting fee, the self-serve bar, and the 25-minute wait

The restaurant was big with plenty of seating.

The table setting fee is ₩5,000 per person, and fried rice + doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) is an extra ₩5,000 ^^*

Ordering crab also gets you access to the self-serve bar, with everything from basic side dishes to salads and fried items — plenty of variety. Great for snacking while waiting for the crab to arrive 🫶🏻

Our family's resident drinker was there, so.. we had a glass of Maesil Maeul (plum wine) even though it was morning

Steamed and cleaned snow crab: how full was the meat?

Wow,,,,, absolutely gorgeous

The moment the crab arrived, the visuals were overwhelming haha 🤤🤤 Even looking back at the photos, the legs packed with meat look so appetizing ❤️

With crab, the whole cleaning process can sometimes make it awkward to eat, but here it came already cleaned and ready to eat, so it was really easy hahaha

Picking up leg after leg, the meat came out easily, and eating it while still warm made it taste even better. Ahh.. 💗

Watching mom enjoy the crab, since she loves it too, made me proud somehow haha. And since my sister was back home for the first time in a while, chatting with the two of them while eating made the food taste even better ~

Is Gijang Myeongpum Daegae good for a family meal? Finishing with crab fried rice

Above all, crab restaurants are great for a family visit since you can sit at one table and talk slowly while eating — I thought it'd make a solid spot for a family gathering 🫶🏻

After finishing the crab, you can order crab fried rice and doenjang stew ❤️ If you're eating with your parents like we were, finishing with crab then fried rice really rounds things off perfectly 🫶🏻

This time, with my sister home ahead of Chuseok, the three of us went to Gijang for some shopping and a good meal, and it was even better because it was rare for the three of us to spend such relaxed time together 🩵 Gijang has so many crab restaurants that it's hard to decide where to go, but if you're looking for a good crab spot in Gijang, Busan, or a family gathering place to take your parents, I'd recommend this one!

Especially during times like Chuseok or other holidays when family gathers after a while apart, sitting together around a full spread of crab feels like a great family meal option :) We left full that day and even stopped by Gijang's ocean-view bar before heading home in a good mood 🦀🤍
