Gijang Korean restaurant: 3 dishes in one beef jeon set, Kkomak

Gijang is such a great spot for a family drive! So when I'm hunting for good food there, I always end up looking for hanjeongsik (Korean set-course meal).

Right next to Haedong Yonggungsa Temple and Lotte Outlet, so the location is great too — I went back to a restaurant that's stayed steadily popular for both.

There are a lot of set-meal options here, but I have a reason for recommending the beef jeon (pan-fried beef) set — let me introduce Kkomak Hansang, a Gijang Korean restaurant.

Where is Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch, and where do you park?

At Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch, turn right before you reach the building and there's an underground parking lot on the left. 2 hours are covered, so you can eat without worrying about the clock.

Lotte Outlet is right across from the restaurant, and Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is just nearby — the location is amazing! It's also right by the sea, so there are cafés around too.

Even on a weekday, it was pretty much full.. Lots of families and group diners especially! Maybe being the main branch makes it even more popular, haha.

Why the beef jeon set is the one to order

As a well-known Gijang Korean restaurant, the menu is built around set-course meals — and I have a reason for recommending the beef jeon set specifically!

Order the beef jeon set and, aside from dried corvina, you get everything — cockle salad, bibimbap, all of it comes together, haha. Really good value! You basically get to try three menu items at once.

A table completely filled with food ~ Honestly, they could sell just the seaweed soup here and still do great, haha. Literally everything on the table is delicious..

Which side dishes refill, and how is the cockle salad?

At Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch, all the basic side dishes are refillable except pollock jeon and cockle jang, haha. And it's not just about having lots of variety — each side dish keeps you reaching back for more.

The cockle salad (꼬막초무침) is not optional, it's mandatory! Tangy, savory sauce with crunchy julienned radish and chewy cockles, ㅠㅠ

Beef jeon wrapped with scallion salad: a winner when you bring your parents

You'd feel bad not eating the beef jeon (pan-fried beef) again — and the scallion salad is a total game-changer too~ Especially a must if you're taking your parents along!

Wrap the beef jeon with the scallion salad and eat it together, and your whole mouth is just happy, haha. Not too greasy, warm~

How big is the cockle bibimbap? Think twice about extra rice

The cockle bibimbap at Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch comes in a really generous portion, so think twice before ordering extra rice. My friend said they were starving so we ordered one extra bowl of rice separately, and…

The extra rice ended up going back mostly untouched.. while we scraped the cockle bibimbap bowl clean ~ This sauce isn't too salty and is just so good, ㅠㅠ

The cockles are piled on generously too, so one spoonful is half rice, half cockle! There's a reason customers keep coming steadily.

Please, eat it this way — put the cockle bibimbap on a perilla leaf, then add the cockle salad on top too, and it's absolutely amazing.

The cockles never seem to run out no matter how much you eat.. Anyone who loves hanjeongsik will definitely love this place! Plump cockles, and the seasoning is spot on.

After lunch: a drive along the Gijang coast

On the way out, grab some ice cream for a happy little palate cleanser ~ There are men's and women's restrooms near the entrance too.

Dragging our very full bellies along, we finished with a drive along the Gijang coast ~ That was Kkomak Hansang, a favorite Gijang Korean restaurant!
