Daechi-dong hair salon men's down perm and cut: TONI&GUY Daechi

In short

TONI&GUY Daechi is a hair salon in Daechi-dong, Seoul, a three-minute walk from Hanti Station Exit 1 on the 6th floor at 9 Seolleung-ro 64-gil. The visit covered a cut, a fringe perm and a men's down perm in one sitting, flattening side hair that flared above the ears and setting the fringe into a swept-down shape. For men who want flared side hair tamed, TONI&GUY Daechi is a solid option.

The consultation at TONI&GUY Daechi's waiting seats

On arrival, the consultation happens first at the waiting seats. It's a space with a round table and chairs, so I could calmly talk through the style I wanted with designer Dayoung!

The waiting area and the treatment space are completely separated, so there was rarely a chance to run into other customers during the service. It felt like a salon suited to anyone who wants a private experience.

The treatment seats had generous spacing, so I didn't feel too aware of the neighboring seat.

Hair before the service: side hair that flared above the ears

This is the front view before the cut. Overall my hair had length and my fringe was in a swept-up style, so this time I wanted a swept-down look instead.

Both sides of my hair tended to flare outward T_T especially puffing up above the ears, which needed the down perm. From the side, the volume at the back had also collapsed, so we decided to tidy it up with a cut and press it down with the perm.

Back of the hair and nape line before the treatment

From the back, the line at the nape wasn't neat. We decided to keep some volume at the back while cleaning up the line.

How the men's down perm went: cut, fringe perm and heat treatment

We started with the cut. The sides and back were trimmed short, while length was kept on top so that a swept-down shape could form after the down perm.

Sections were clipped off and solution applied, with a fringe perm done at the same time to set the direction it would fall.

Since my fringe tends to curve to one side, rollers were wound in to correct it toward the direction I wanted. She said that once the fringe direction is set, styling gets much easier.

Down perm solution was applied to the flared sections and pressed down with a comb to set the texture. While the treatment was going on, I chatted with designer Dayoung — she's worked at other salons before, but said TONI&GUY runs training based out of its London headquarters, with all staff attending head-office training twice a month, so she's always learning the latest trends!

Drinks and cookies while the perm set

While the down perm solution set in, she brought over the drinks menu. There were coffee, non-coffee, and herbal tea options to choose from depending on preference. An iced americano and cookies came out on a tray, and the service was kind enough that the waiting time didn't feel long at all.

The sides were finished with heat treatment using paper foil placed over the hair. This step focused specifically on pressing down the flared areas.

The massage shampoo bed at TONI&GUY Daechi

Shampooing was done at the Vers Spa premium shampoo bed with massage function. It's supposedly rare equipment even among Daechi-dong salons, and since down perms have a longer rinsing time, getting a massage while waiting was great haha.

After the down perm: a neat swept-down style

Here's the front view after the treatment. The side hair settled down and the fringe direction was set, giving me the swept-down style I wanted.

From the side, the flared area above the ears was tamed. The back kept its volume without looking flattened. Both sides matched in texture, so I think my morning drying time will be shorter haha.

The line at the back was also neatly cleaned up. The attention paid to the fine hairs at the nape was, personally, what satisfied me most.

Is TONI&GUY Daechi worth it for a men's down perm?

Walking out of TONI&GUY Daechi after getting a cut, fringe perm, and down perm all in one visit, my hair felt so much lighter haha. Personally, I was most satisfied that the flared side hair and fringe direction she pointed out during the consultation were exactly what got fixed.

Final style after the cut and down perm

If you're looking for a place that does a great men's down perm, I'd recommend designer Dayoung at TONI&GUY Daechi near Hantiyeok Station!
