Seongsu burger restaurant Friday dinner: sriracha shrimp set at bd

A good-value burger spot in Seongsu-Ttukseom, Seoul's Seongdong district — a handmade burger and shrimp burger place called bd Burger! Went for dinner on a Friday.

Where bd Burger is near Seongsu Station — a little off the main drag, and that's a good thing

bd Burger is a bit removed from the main street near Seongsu Station, but that's actually a plus — the main street gets so packed on Friday-Saturday-Sunday you can't tell if you're in Korea or China.

It's on the floor above the famous charcuterie shop Sesque Menceslas. This is a genuinely nice-vibe neighborhood.

The restroom is outside the store (same building), and you need a card key to get in.

Friday, 7:30pm — was there a table?

Got there around 7:30pm on a weekday Friday and it was busy, but thankfully there was a table!

I came to bd Burger about 3 years ago and remember it being delicious, so I ordered the same shrimp burger this time.

Looks like they run a set-menu discount for weekday lunch too. This quality of handmade burger at this price in Seongsu? That's seriously good value food.

Self-service bar and bussing station

There's a self-service bar where you grab your own small plates, cutlery, tissues, ketchup, etc.

When you're done, no need to sort your trash — just leave it at the bussing station and go!

Does the milkshake taste like cheese?

The zero-sugar cola and milkshake that came with the sets. The burger you grab yourself, but they bring the drinks to you first.

This milkshake tastes kind of... cheesy? A different, distinctive flavor from the usual sweet-and-nutty milkshakes elsewhere. My friend said it was amazing and drank it face-first into the cup. You can swap to a milkshake for +₩2,900 on a set.

There are even disposable gloves at the self-bar. Nice touch.

First off, the vegetables are generous and fresh, which is nice because it doesn't trigger the diet guilt.

How was the bd Wasabi Shrimp Burger Set?

I can't really handle wasabi so I didn't try it myself, but my friend said this one was delicious too.

She said the wasabi sauce had a sharp kick and spiciness that cut the richness without being too much — she liked it!

Wasabi + shrimp is a steady, always-a-good-combo pairing, so if you're into it, give it a try.

bd Burger's fried sides — fries, eggplant, mushroom

bd Burger is famous for its fried sides. Just look at that visual.

So good.

The fries come with some kind of seasoning sprinkled on, and the sauce is great too. This is the taste of comfort — thrilling.

Eggplant & mushroom fritters

This thing is a treasure. Eggplant fritters (3 pcs) + mushroom fritters (3 pcs), chipotle and ranch sauces.

Let's try the eggplant fritters first — apparently bd Burger's signature item.

I'm an eggplant-namul kid at heart and have walked the path of an eggplant hater, but fried is different.

This sauce is unfair... the eggplant isn't asserting itself as a strong-flavored vegetable, it just feels like eating a tasty fritter that happens to release vegetable juice.

This place really knows how to fry.

Next up, the mushroom fritters.

Wow, this is insanely good??????????? My number one.

The mushroom aroma comes through fully, nutty and umami-rich and crisp.

I liked the mushroom fritters even more than the eggplant. Ordering this again next time.

I tried dipping in ketchup too, but the chipotle ranch is better.

A meal full of fried food, with corn salad giving your bloodstream a break in between.

Refreshing and cool, it freshens up your mouth — basically bd's version of kimchi.

A burger stand made things easier

There's a burger stand so you don't have to hold your burger the whole time — nice, because there are moments you want to focus on the side dishes.

I want this burger stand for myself.

Atmosphere and seating

We got so absorbed in eating that it was nearly 8:30pm before I knew it — by then the crowd had thinned a bit so I took some photos. Lots of two-person tables, good for dates, and solo dining seems fine too.

Didn't get a photo of the finished plates since they were a mess, but it was delicious anyway.
