Three signature dishes at a Gwangalli brunch café: Famous Benny

In short

Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is an Australian-style brunch café in a side alley of Minrak-dong, Suyeong, Busan, open daily from 8am. After a morning walk along Gwangalli beach, the writer put all three signatures on one table — The Famous Benny (18,000 won), bacon scramble toast (15,000 won) and an acai bowl (9,000 won) — and found the mild seasoning easy for a first meal of the day. Every seat at Famous Benny has a power outlet and pets are welcome, so it works for solo work sessions as well as a morning out with the dog.

A full brunch spread at Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch

I went out for a morning walk toward Gwangalli beach for the first time in a while and wanted to sit somewhere pretty for a relaxed meal, so I went looking for a brunch spot. For my first meal of the day I wanted something gentle on the stomach but nicely plated, and I found a Gwangalli café that opens early — Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch, where you can get Australian-style brunch starting at 8am.

Since Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch opens at 8am, it works well as a Gwangalli breakfast spot too — great for anyone visiting Busan and moving early, or after a Gwangalli morning walk or run, or for a coffee before a morning appointment! Head into the alley from Gwangalli Tonshow and you'll find it.

Pets welcome!

Famous Benny's two floors: comfortable chairs in Minrak-dong

This Minrak-dong brunch café has a first and second floor. Some pretty cafés these days have chairs so uncomfortable you can't sit for long, but here the seats are really cozy ♥ So if you want a Gwangalli café where the food is solid and the space is comfortable too, this should suit you well!

It's good for a brunch date with a friend, and also works for a Gwangalli date brunch.

True to its Australian-brunch-café concept, the interior is very stylish, and there are bar seats and two-tops so it's not awkward to visit alone at all — plus every seat has an outlet, so it looked great for working on a laptop or reading.

There are also high chairs, so it's a good spot to bring a baby!

What is on the Australian brunch menu at Famous Benny?

Famous Benny is built around Australian-style brunch. Alongside the signature The Famous Benny, there's eggs Benedict, scrambled French toast, Egg in Hell, acai bowl, salads, and soup — quite a range! So this is less a café where you just grab bread and coffee and more a proper Gwangalli brunch spot where you can eat a full meal.

Mild, healthy seasoning that balances the plate

The three signature brunch dishes ordered
  • Acai bowl ₩9,000
  • The Famous Benny ₩18,000
  • Bacon scramble toast ₩15,000

I ordered a round of the signature dishes here, and overall nothing was too heavily seasoned or intense, so it felt really easy on the stomach as a first meal of the day.

A cup of coffee from Famous Benny

How was the coffee at Famous Benny?

Usually places pay attention only to the brunch menu and the coffee is a letdown, but Famous Benny is genuinely a coffee spot... (I admit it). The beans had a nutty, tangy body that showed real care in the coffee quality, and honestly, it was my style. The aroma was great too. A Gwangalli café that nailed the coffee as much as the food.

The Famous Benny (18,000 won)

This is the signature eggs Benedict named after the café. The soul of eggs Benedict is the poached egg, and the rich yolk that burst out when I cut it was pure art. Especially satisfying was that there wasn't a single trace of that fishy egg smell.

Runny poached egg on The Famous Benny

The balance between the fresh ingredients and the hollandaise sauce was so perfect I scraped the plate clean without getting tired of it.

Salmon and poached egg on a croissant

A croissant topped with poached egg, avocado, and salmon together — it's really substantial! None of the individual ingredients get lost in the mix.

Plate topped with avocado and garlic flakes

Packed with well-ripened avocado ♥ with a sprinkle of garlic flakes too!

The Famous Benny cut into bite-sized pieces

No single salty note or sauce flavor jumps out — instead the nuttiness of the egg, the softness of the avocado, and the richness of the croissant all come together.

Bacon scramble toast (15,000 won)

A plate of bacon scramble toast

A classic brunch of toast topped with scrambled eggs and bacon — the eggs were really soft. The scramble had that moist, smooth texture that was so good paired with the bread.

Fluffy, soft scrambled eggs topped with salty, crisp bacon nailed both texture and flavor. Instead of a heavy seasoned taste, it really brought out the natural flavor of the ingredients — a great, filling meal!!

Toast served with Greek yogurt

I dipped the toast in Greek yogurt plus olive oil — super healthy and really good. I'm usually not a fan of sweet flavors, but this was satisfying.

Acai bowl (9,000 won)

Another dish I strongly recommend! A healthy acai berry base piled with granola gives it a nice crunch, and it's not overly sweet but refreshing — a must whether before or after a meal.

Acai bowl piled high with granola

It has that characteristic sweet-tart acai flavor, but it's not sugary-sweet like a dessert — it's bright and easy to eat, and the granola keeps the texture lively. One bite and your mouth feels refreshed again! Anyone looking for Gwangalli breakfast or a healthy Gwangalli brunch should definitely add an acai bowl.

Scooping a spoonful of the acai bowl

A lot of brunch spots these days lean on heavy sauces or a strong sweet-salty flavor, but Famous Benny felt more like a healthy meal that let the ingredients speak for themselves! Of course healthy doesn't mean bland — the seasoning wasn't overwhelming, and nutty ingredients like egg and avocado, plus bacon and granola for flavor and texture, made it really delicious.

Brunch table after the meal is finished

Who is Famous Benny Gwangalli best for?

I'd recommend this without hesitation to anyone planning an early morning date in Gwangalli, anyone who wants some relaxed solo time to read or work, and above all, anyone who wants Australian brunch that's not just pretty but actually delicious.

What I especially liked was that nothing was too heavily seasoned or intense overall. It wasn't a heavy way to start the morning, and the egg dishes were nutty and soft with no fishy taste, so it was easy to eat. Since it's open from 8am, this is a place I'd love to come back to whether I'm looking for breakfast during a Busan trip or want to start the day slowly in Gwangalli.

Also, a lot of people come to Gwangalli to walk their dogs, so I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a dog-friendly Gwangalli brunch café!!
