Namcheon-dong Korean BBQ couch seats, extra mushrooms: Geobugi Dongne

Today I want to introduce a new favorite in Namcheon-dong: a Korean barbecue restaurant called Geobugi Dongne (거북이동네) Namcheon Branch.

Where is Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch, and is there parking?

This Namcheon-dong Korean barbecue spot sits right outside Exit 1 of Namcheon Station on Line 2. There's no dedicated parking lot, but since it's directly in front of the subway exit and a bus stop, it's super convenient to reach by public transit.

It looked like it hadn't been open long — the entrance was decorated pretty elaborately. Right inside the entrance there's a Catch Table kiosk, so you can even queue up during busy hours.

Inside Geobugi Dongne: couch seats and private rooms

Here's a look inside Geobugi Dongne, a Namcheon-dong favorite.

The interior is huge and spacious, with soft lighting and calm-toned decor that gave it a really upscale feel.

The tables are also very big, and the couch-style seats were wide enough to fit three or four people in a row — with just the two of us there, it felt almost too generous, haha. It seemed perfect for all kinds of gatherings.

The seats were super comfortable too, and the space was well partitioned, so we could enjoy a quiet meal without being bothered by neighboring tables.

Further inside there's also a larger room for bigger groups. Perfect for a work dinner near Namcheon Station, right?

Kids' video room and baby facilities at Geobugi Dongne

What really impressed me was this kids' video room. It's set up so that families with young children can eat comfortably while the kids watch something nearby.

Even the walls are fully cushioned, so you don't have to watch your kid like a hawk in case they get hurt — they can run around freely!

There's even a separate air conditioner just for that room, for comfortable viewing. I'm not a kid and I don't have kids, but I was genuinely touched that a space like this exists!

Baby chairs were available too, of course, and disposable aprons were provided.

Since this Namcheon-dong spot specializes in aged meat, there's an aging fridge for the meat off to one side.

Menu prices and the 5,000-won table fee

Here's the menu at Geobugi Dongne, a lunch favorite in Namcheon-dong.

They serve beef and shabu-shabu as well as pork. Aged pork is the signature, with cuts like aged pork belly, pork neck, five-layer pork belly, pork jowl, and gabrisal available, plus flash-frozen pork belly. On the beef side there's premium (1++) Korean beef slices, regular Korean beef slices, beef brisket, beef belly, and beef flower rib. There's a wide range of meal items too, plus plenty of set menu options.

A few things to know before ordering: there's guidance on your first order and any additional orders, and the table fee is ₩5,000. It seems this fee is charged per table, not per person. (The service fee was already added automatically without us having to add it to the cart.) We ordered the couple set (500g), two servings of doenjang-jjigae, two servings of freshly cooked pot rice, and assorted mushrooms.

Self-serve bar: banchan sides and wrap vegetables

They don't set out basic side dishes for you — instead you help yourself at the self-serve bar, and it's really well stocked. Lots of varieties, and everything was fully topped up.

There were even kids' tableware available. We grabbed a little of everything for ourselves.

Lettuce wraps and shabu-shabu vegetables were set up separately too.

Once we brought the side dishes over it looked like a feast, haha. We didn't grab one of every single type — just the ones we actually wanted to eat — and it was still plenty and varied.

Do you need to order extra assorted mushrooms?

Side note: we ordered assorted mushrooms separately, and a staff member came over to let us know the couple set already includes mushrooms, asking if we still wanted to add more. We asked them to add it anyway, worried the mushroom portion might be small — but it turned out we really didn't need to, because the mushrooms came out generously.

Couple set 500g: tasting all four pork cuts

Here's the couple set meat, plated quickly while we were off grabbing side dishes.

The couple set is 500g total — pork belly 200g, pork neck 100g, pork jowl 100g, and gabrisal 100g — served with assorted mushrooms, so you get to try a bunch of different cuts at once.

We started by grilling the pork neck. The ventilation was excellent, so the air inside stayed fresh — we never got wrapped in smoke.

Being aged meat, it really was tender and had a nice nutty flavor.

Mushrooms grilled on a Korean barbecue grill are somehow always so delicious — with the extra mushrooms on top of the set, it was basically a full-on mushroom party, haha.

The pork belly looked amazing too — great color and a good lean-to-fat ratio.

Personally, the pork belly was my favorite of the day. That nutty flavor from the aging process was just excellent.

The pork jowl wasn't sliced too thick, so it wasn't heavy at all — light and clean to eat.

Freshly cooked pot rice, doenjang-jjigae and sungnyung to finish

There was a wide range of meal options, and we went with the freshly cooked pot rice and doenjang-jjigae. The pot rice, available from two servings up, was genuinely, genuinely delicious.

It might be one of the best bowls of rice I've ever had — glossier and better cooked than at most dedicated pot rice restaurants, sticky yet fluffy at the same time. My companion agreed too.

The doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) had a slightly spicy kick from red pepper flakes along with deep, savory flavor, and it was packed with ingredients.

To finish, warm sungnyung (scorched rice tea) helped with digestion, and a free soft-serve ice cream really rounded things off into a perfect meal.

On the way out I noticed a Red Marine Gym perk too — bring a receipt of ₩30,000 or more and you get extra PT sessions and a discount on membership, so go burn off those calories you just packed on, haha!

Is Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch worth a visit?

Easy access by public transit, a kids' video room, a large private room with roomy tables, friendly staff, an unlimited self-serve bar, and genuinely good aged meat at a reasonable price — Geobugi Dongne is a Namcheon-dong favorite I'd recommend as a great spot near Namcheon Station. ♡
