These days, whenever it gets chilly or rains, I start craving something hot and spicy in broth form. I was having dinner around Omokgyo and looking for what to eat, so I went to Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch for gopchang jeongol (beef intestine hot pot). The place is well known for grilled gopchang too, but that day I was more in the mood for a spicy broth than grilling, so I ordered the hot pot.

The hot pot came out somewhat pre-cooked, so all we had to do was keep it boiling until everything was fully cooked. As it started bubbling, the broth deepened in color and the seasoning soaked into the ingredients nicely.

After boiling it hard, I tried the broth first — that rich, spicy flavor unique to gopchang jeongol really came through.

The gopchang jeongol comes with udon noodles included, and adding noodles to the rich broth gave a whole different feel. As the broth kept boiling and getting thicker, the udon noodles soaked up the flavor well. After eating a good amount of gopchang, adding the udon noodles made for a hearty finish.

Finishing the gopchang hot pot with fried rice

After eating a good amount of the gopchang jeongol, we ordered fried rice to finish. The fried rice, cooked with egg for a nutty flavor, went really well with the scallion kimchi on the side. From grilled gopchang to gopchang hot pot, Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a good spot for drinks with friends or just a meal — give it a try!
