Mokdong gopchang restaurant with shiitake wasabi sauce: Omokgyo
In short
Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is a beef intestine (gopchang) grill house tucked into an alley near Omokgyo Station in Yangcheon, Seoul. The order was one serving of traditional handmade garlic gopchang and one serving of mixed gopchang — heart, makchang, daechang, honeycomb tripe and ox gopchang — each dipped in its own sauce, including a shiitake wasabi sauce, with the spicy sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew) that arrives as a basic side dish to reset the palate. For a first visit at Omokgyo Gopchang, start with those two servings and add more cuts to taste.

Hi, this is Nyuna 💛 There are foods I need a regular transfusion of, and gopchang (grilled beef intestine) is one of them!

I visited Omokgyo Gopchang, the famous Omokgyo spot that's been on TV shows like Live Today and visited by lots of celebrities. I heard they have an especially special menu, so my heart was already pounding before I even got there.
Where Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is, and what the room feels like
Omokgyo Gopchang Mokdong Main Branch is tucked into an alley near Omokgyo Station. It's inside the alley, but the place has such a strong presence you'll spot it quickly once you get there.

It had that comfortable, lively feeling typical of gopchang restaurants. It felt like the perfect spot not just for meals with friends but for evening drinks or a group gathering too.

💬 Omokgyo Gopchang says they source the finest domestic beef and Hanwoo (Korean native beef) slaughtered that same day, and it comes pre-grilled once.

The no-lose roulette and the 20% takeout discount
Omokgyo Gopchang had a fun event going on. ✔️ A no-lose roulette event where you can win meal vouchers and lots of prizes ✔️ 20% off if you write a review and order 2+ servings of takeout — definitely worth joining!

What we ordered: garlic gopchang for one plus mixed gopchang for one
Omokgyo Gopchang's signature menu is the traditional handmade garlic gopchang, so we first ordered one serving of garlic gopchang and one serving of mixed gopchang.

The spicy sundubu-jjigae that comes free as a basic side dish
One thing that stood out among Omokgyo Gopchang's basic side dishes was the spicy sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew). Once the side dishes are set out, this stew catches your eye right away! Most places serve sundaeguk (blood sausage soup), but having a spicy sundubu-jjigae meant that after working through each cut of gopchang, one spoonful of stew reset my palate completely. It's spicy enough that you could finish a whole bowl of rice with it alone 🥢
What's on the mixed gopchang platter, and the fire show
Heart, makchang, daechang, beef honeycomb tripe, garlo, garlic gopchang, bean sprouts, chives, green onion kimchi — a gorgeous lineup arrives on one tray, and you even get to watch a fire show right in front of you. Heart needs to be eaten quickly before the blood color fades and it gets tough. It was thick but chewy and so delicious. It's hard to rank gopchang, makchang, and daechang against each other, but gopchang is still my favorite — it's packed with fat, so when you bite in it bursts and the savoriness is out of this world.

Shiitake wasabi sauce and the other dips for each cut
Omokgyo Gopchang's platter comes with a variety of sauces.
- Heart ▶️ chive salad and oil-soy dip
- Beef gopchang/makchang/honeycomb tripe ▶️ green onion kimchi and spicy special sauce
- Garlic gopchang ▶️ green onion kimchi and oil-soy dip
- Daechang ▶️ grilled bean sprouts, chives, and spicy special sauce * shiitake wasabi sauce
Eating it this way, apparently, is the proper way to enjoy it!! The shiitake wasabi sauce in particular was my favorite.

What does the traditional handmade garlic gopchang taste like?
The signature traditional handmade garlic gopchang has garlic tucked right inside each piece of intestine. They say they carefully stuff in Seosan six-clove garlic piece by piece, which is why it's only sold in limited quantity. As the gopchang grills, the garlic inside turns sweet and you get to bite into it along with the intestine — the combination was so delicious. It was a really distinctive pairing.

Green onion kimchi, made fresh every Friday
There's one more kicker at Omokgyo Gopchang: the green onion kimchi. Every Friday, they make it fresh, with a taste reminiscent of a mother's home cooking — there's a fragrant, slightly sweet quality to the green onion, and it was delicious whether eaten raw or grilled.

We ate heartily and even ordered an extra round of gopchang, finishing everything off properly. Near the counter, I noticed they even have Fabreze, hair ties, and wet wipes ready for guests!

How to order at Omokgyo Gopchang on a first visit
I tried the mixed gopchang, which has everything together, and the traditional handmade garlic gopchang. For first-timers, I'd recommend starting with these two and then adding more according to your taste afterward. If you're looking for a good gopchang restaurant near Omokgyo, give Omokgyo Gopchang a try!
