Here's my review of trying charcoal bulgogi properly at Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong, a well-known restaurant near Omokgyo Station.

While looking for a good restaurant near Omokgyo Station, I ended up visiting Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong.

This place centers on meat grilled over charcoal, with a variety of side dishes you can enjoy alongside it.

Today I'm sharing my review of the 100% Korean pork gochujang charcoal bulgogi, seolhwa kkodeulsal, shrimp egg custard, and yeolmu kimchi noodle soup.

Having tried it myself, the subtle smoky charcoal aroma blended really well with the savory gochujang marinade — a great spot for anyone who loves meat dishes.

Inside Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong: the room and the self-service bar
The interior of Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong had a mix of old-school charm and clean, newly-opened vibes.

It felt like the classic old-fashioned meat restaurant concept, but with a fresh, tidy feel like it hadn't been open long.
Thanks to the great, highly visible location, there were still a decent number of customers even late at night.

There's a self-service bar for refilling side dishes, plus a slushie machine you can use for dessert.
Korean pork gochujang charcoal bulgogi, 14,900 won per serving

I ordered one serving of the Korean pork gochujang charcoal bulgogi (₩14,900) and two servings of the limited-quantity kkodeulsal (₩17,900 per serving).

The Korean pork gochujang charcoal bulgogi apparently uses 100% Korean pork aged in an earthenware jar for more than 1,440 minutes.
The aged meat came with gochujang marinade already applied, and it looked delicious just from the sight of it.

Grilling it over charcoal gave the surface of the meat a subtle smoky aroma, and the sweet-spicy flavor of the gochujang marinade blended in naturally.

The meat itself had a nicely chewy texture with the marinade well soaked in, which paired well with the shrimp egg custard too.
Above all, unlike regular bulgogi, the distinctive aroma from being grilled over charcoal really stood out.

The Korean pork gochujang charcoal bulgogi went especially well with the scallion salad.
Seolhwa kkodeulsal, the limited daily cut at 17,900 won
Next up is the seolhwa kkodeulsal, made from Korean pork and sold in a limited daily quantity. Just looking at its thick cut, you could tell the texture would be good.
It was thick and chewy as expected, and with the first bite you could really feel the juices.

It's tasty wrapped in lettuce too, and Gamgol Yeontanjip uniquely serves it with a basil sauce, adding a fresh twist.
Changdong-ne shrimp egg custard, 5,900 won (recommended)

Alongside the meat, we ordered the Changdong-ne shrimp egg custard, priced at ₩5,900. It's a special egg custard made with plump shrimp, scallions, and sesame oil.

Shrimp was tucked among the softly cooked egg, giving a subtle seafood umami with every bite.

Eating the spicy gochujang bulgogi together with the soft egg custard balanced the flavors nicely. The yellow layer is sesame oil, which was such a clever and honestly kind of shocking idea. It's delicious — I never knew egg custard could be this savory! Now I'm thinking I should add sesame oil next time I make egg custard at home.
Finishing with yeolmu kimchi noodle soup, 6,900 won
While eating the meat, we also tried the yeolmu kimchi noodle soup, priced at ₩6,900.

It's a dish combining crunchy yeolmu (young radish greens) with a cool kimchi broth. The tangy, deeply savory broth cleared the palate nicely, making it a great companion to the meat.

Especially after the spicy charcoal bulgogi and the juicy seolhwa kkodeulsal, finishing with the cool broth kept things tangy and refreshing right to the end.
Is Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong worth a trip for Korean BBQ?
What I liked about Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong is that alongside the charcoal bulgogi, you can also enjoy dishes like egg custard and noodles. In particular, the Korean pork gochujang charcoal bulgogi, made with 100% Korean pork aged and grilled over charcoal, had a nice balance of smoky char and marinade flavor.

Between the meat and the side dishes, it made for a full, satisfying meal, and finishing with a slushie for dessert was a clean way to wrap things up. If you're looking for a good restaurant near Omokgyo Station, Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong, with its great location, is worth a visit.
