Jeju seafood restaurant takeaway for late-night snacks: Dutumhoe
In short
Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch is a seafood restaurant in Dongmun Market, Jeju. I packed sashimi, futomaki and coconut fried shrimp, eating the fried shrimp at a nearby park before saving the chilled seafood for a late-night snack at our accommodation. Verdict: a nice low-pressure way to enjoy several Jeju dishes on a trip.

Choosing food for our accommodation at Dongmun Market

After lunch, we made a quick stop at Dongmun Market. As I looked around, I found there was so much to eat there besides sashimi.

I was looking for simple drinks and food to have at our accommodation when I came across Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch. It was fun to browse because, among the seafood restaurants at Dongmun Market, it had such a wide range of choices.
- Live mackerel sashimi assortment and assorted sashimi
- Flounder and salmon sashimi, plus sweet shrimp sashimi
- Futomaki (large sushi rolls) and sushi, with plenty of easy-to-combine options
The picks, including futomaki

Looking over the menu, I saw that they had not only sashimi and sushi but futomaki too. In Seoul, futomaki usually costs more than ₩20,000–₩30,000, you know.

But here, the ingredients did not feel lacking at all, and the price felt affordable. I thought it would feel less burdensome for anyone looking around for sashimi takeaway at Dongmun Market too.
Coconut fried shrimp at the park before it went soggy

I wanted to eat the coconut fried shrimp before it went soggy. So as soon as we picked it up, we headed to a nearby park.

The shrimp were bigger than I expected, so I liked them before I had even taken a bite. When you are looking for a seafood restaurant at Dongmun Market, it is fun to have fried dishes like this alongside the sashimi and pick things one by one.

When I took a bite, the batter had a coconut flavor. I could taste coconut as I chewed too, so its distinctive flavor came through quite nicely.

At first I wondered whether fried food and coconut would go together, but the combination was better than I expected. The plump shrimp and gently sweet coconut flavor worked together, so I kept reaching for more. It also went well with chili sauce, and we finished it in no time.
Chilled packaging for a late-night snack at our accommodation

We had a bit of a distance to travel, and because it was hot, I worried, “Will it be okay to take sashimi with us?” But they packed the sashimi and futomaki neatly in an insulated bag with ice packs. That made it easy to put into our bag and take back to the accommodation.

Once we arrived, we put it in the refrigerator, then took it out again for a late-night snack after being out having fun for quite a while. Packing it up like this and eating it at our accommodation after looking for a Dongmun Market seafood restaurant was nice because it felt less expensive.

At night, we brought out Hallasan soju and had it with the sashimi and futomaki. They also included plenty of sauces and side dishes.

One bite of futomaki completely filled my mouth—it felt so satisfying. Koreans really do love carbohydrates! Having rice in it made me even happier. Spreading out our Dongmun Market sashimi takeaway and eating it comfortably at the accommodation made the trip feel even more real. The sashimi was neither too thick nor too thin.

For me, it was a great thickness to eat. It can get fairly expensive to eat at a seafood restaurant, so I was happy that we could enjoy it more affordably. If you are looking for a seafood restaurant at Dongmun Market, taking some back for a late-night snack at your accommodation could be a good option.
Sweet shrimp sashimi as a small extra taste

If you have come all the way to Jeju, you have to eat sweet shrimp at least once, right? But ordering a large amount of sweet shrimp sashimi can feel a little pricey. Dutumhoe had a portion that was just right for a taste, and I liked that.

It was nice that I could taste sweet shrimp while in Jeju and enjoy it with other sashimi without ordering a lot at a high price. The flesh was sweet too, and having it with Hallasan soju gave us the full Jeju late-night-snack feeling.
