Samgyetang recovery lunch at Bangbaeng Sageori: Masamgyetang
In short
Masamgyetang Bangbaeng Sageori Branch is a Korean restaurant on Dogok-ro 3-gil in Gangnam, Seoul, specialising in samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) made with yam. On a day when travel and backed-up work had drained every bit of energy, the signature yam samgyetang was ordered and finished to the last spoon of broth, with side dishes refilled freely at the self-serve bar. I recently got back from a really fun trip, but the moment I got home I had to plow through all the work that had piled up, and my body just got completely wrecked ㅠㅠ

I was so worn out that the inside of my mouth was all cracked and I had zero energy left. I thought, "okay, this is a real emergency, I need proper recovery food!" haha

So I looked into what food would help me recover my strength and found a solid samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) restaurant, and rushed right over! The place I visited was Masamgyetang Bangbaeng Sageori Branch haha
Inside Masamgyetang Bangbaeng Sageori Branch: room and menu
Masamgyetang Bangbaeng Sageori Branch is a samgyetang restaurant located at 19 Dogok-ro 3-gil, 1F, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The moment I walked in, the clean, tidy interior caught my eye!

It felt so pleasant and comfortable, perfect for a relaxed meal haha

Looking at the menu, the basic option immediately stood out, so without hesitation I went straight for the most basic of the basics, the signature yam samgyetang!

What are the side dishes and self-serve bar like?
The side dishes at Masamgyetang Bangbaeng Sageori Branch come out generously — pickled chili peppers, diced radish kimchi, onions, and more — and you can grab extra from the self-serve bar on one side of the store as needed. After I ordered, they set the side dishes down, and wow... every single one of them was genuinely so delicious haha

Pickled chili peppers, diced radish kimchi, onions — side dishes that pair insanely well with samgyetang, all served in generous portions!

By the way, there's a well-stocked self-serve bar on one side of the store, so you can comfortably grab as much extra side dish as you want without feeling awkward — I loved that haha

There was also a big sign clearly stating that side dishes aren't reused, which made it feel a lot more hygienic and trustworthy haha

How does the yam samgyetang broth and chicken taste?
The yam samgyetang at Masamgyetang Bangbaeng Sageori Branch has yam added, so the broth is richer and deeper than regular samgyetang. After a bit of a wait, the much-anticipated yam samgyetang finally arrived at the table, bubbling away furiously! haha The steam rising off it and that savory aroma hitting my nose nearly made me drool on the spot haha

Maybe it's because of the yam, which is known to be good for the body and gives you a boost of energy, but the broth right from the start was just noticeably richer and deeper than regular samgyetang!

The moment I took the first bite, I genuinely thought, "wow... this feels like my body is getting healthier and restored the second I eat it!" haha

The chicken was so tender and soft that the meat separated from the bone the moment I touched it with my chopsticks haha

It was boiled so thoroughly that the meat wasn't dry at all — it was genuinely soft!

I dipped the tender chicken lightly in salt and tried it... wow, it was seriously so, so delicious haha

Taking a bite of the chicken followed by a spicy, tangy side dish, the combination with the samgyetang was absolutely fantastic! Such an insane pairing haha

The glutinous rice inside had also soaked up the deep, yam-infused broth, so every spoonful I scooped up made me let out another sigh of admiration haha

The whole time I was eating, I started sweating just a little and felt like the warmth was reaching deep inside my body!

I couldn't capture it all in photos, but after finishing all the chicken, I picked up the bowl and scraped up every last bit of the remaining broth haha it was a total clean sweep haha

How did the body feel the next day?
Want to know the truly amazing part? haha After finishing a whole bowl of yam samgyetang, broth and all, I went home, slept like a rock, and woke up to find that the cracks in my mouth had healed and my exhausted body was back to normal, like it was magic!! haha The recovery effect was seriously incredible haha

It's really the perfect Bangbaeng Sageori lunch spot to visit when you desperately need to restore your body or when you're worn down by daily life with zero energy left! They also sell ginseng liquor haha once my condition improves a bit more, I'd love to go back and try that too haha

Writing this blog post now and looking back at these photos is making my mouth water again, so I think I'll be back to eat here again soon haha If you're looking for a great samgyetang spot in Gangnam, I strongly recommend Masamgyetang Bangbaeng Sageori Branch!! Definitely worth a visit haha
