I visited Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch, a grilled fish spot in Gwonseon-gu. I love grilled fish and tend to seek out different places for it, and this is somewhere I personally come back to fairly often.
The name itself translates to something like "mackerel becomes a premium item," which gave me confidence this would be a mackerel specialist. Once you visit, though, you'll find plenty of other grilled fish and braised fish dishes alongside the mackerel.

Where is Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch?
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch sits on Seobu-ro in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon. 📍1F, 1731 Seobu-ro, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi, South Korea.
It's not too far a trip from Suwon Station either, so it's a good option when you're looking for somewhere to eat near the station.
Is parking easy at the Suwon branch?
One reason I keep coming back to Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is parking. These days when eating out in Suwon, finding parking matters almost as much as finding good food. This restaurant has a wide outdoor parking area right in front, making it quite convenient to visit by car.

Especially when visiting as a family or with parents, easy parking alone raises my satisfaction with the choice of restaurant quite a bit. Not having to stress over parking is definitely an advantage.
What's on the menu and which fish can you order?
The menu at Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is more varied than you'd expect. Alongside basic grilled fish, they also serve braised fish, sashimi, and sushi.

For grilled fish specifically, you can choose from mackerel, croaker, bakdae sole, Spanish mackerel, cutlassfish, and more — a nice range to pick from depending on your taste. This time, to compare a few fish side by side, I ordered
- Grilled premium croaker 25,000 won
- Grilled bakdae sole 20,000 won
That's what I went with. When you come to a grilled fish restaurant, you usually think of mackerel or Spanish mackerel first, but this time I picked fish I don't often eat.
Inside the restaurant: table spacing and mood
Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is bigger than expected once you step inside. The tables are spaced fairly generously too, so you don't get that cramped feeling you sometimes get at small grilled fish places.

So it works well not just for solo dining or small meals but also for family outings or larger groups. Grilled fish is a dish that's rarely a hard sell when eating with parents, so I felt this was a good place to visit with family.

How fresh is the mackerel?
Since mackerel is the flagship item, fresh mackerel greets you right away. This time I tried something new, but this place really does mackerel very well.

What side dishes come with the meal?
With grilled fish, the main fish matters, but personally I think how well the side dishes and rice pair with it matters just as much.

At Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch, the grilled fish comes with a neat spread of Korean side dishes, giving the whole meal a home-cooked feel. Grilled fish is a fairly plain dish, so it pairs much better with kimchi or seasoned vegetables. A spoonful of warm rice topped with fish flesh and a side dish or two makes for a pretty satisfying meal.

Premium croaker vs bakdae sole: how they taste
What I ordered this time was the grilled premium croaker and grilled bakdae sole.

Grilled fish is definitely best eaten right when it comes out. The golden-grilled fish gives off a savory aroma and the skin is crisped up nicely, which really gets the appetite going.

Grilling fish at home tends to leave a lot of smell and cleanup hassle, so eating fish properly grilled somewhere else, without any of that trouble, feels like the biggest perk.
Grilled premium croaker, 25,000 won

Croaker has soft, mild flesh, so it's great for tasting the fish itself when grilled without heavy seasoning. Picking off the golden-grilled flesh and eating it with rice gives a mild yet savory flavor. If you usually stick to familiar grilled fish like mackerel or cutlassfish, ordering croaker once in a while is worth trying.
Grilled bakdae sole, 20,000 won

Bakdae sole has a different charm from your usual mackerel or Spanish mackerel, so it's worth a try if you're a fan of grilled fish. Picking off the flesh and putting it on rice makes for a light, satisfying meal, and

most of all, ordering two different fish rather than just one made for a fun comparison while eating. If you're visiting with a group, I'd recommend ordering different fish varieties to share.
The self-bar and sungnyung ochazuke finish
One side of Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch has a self-bar set up. I liked being able to grab extra side dishes without feeling awkward about it, and it was handy for a group to use as much as needed.
With grilled fish you end up reaching for various side dishes, so having a self-bar meant fewer little inconveniences during the meal. These small details matter quite a bit for a family meal.

Personally, I liked using the sungnyung (scorched rice tea) to enjoy the grilled fish ochazuke-style.
Is Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon worth a visit?
Overall, the biggest strengths of Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch seem to be the combination of a spacious dining room, ample parking, a wide variety of grilled fish, and the self-bar. Great grilled fish matters, but when visiting with family, parking and the overall restaurant environment matter quite a lot too.
Taking all that into account, I think it's a solid choice when looking for a grilled fish restaurant for a family meal in Suwon. If you're a grilled fish lover like me, I'd recommend trying croaker or bakdae sole instead of mackerel this time.
When I'm craving a clean, satisfying Korean meal in Suwon, I think I'll be back here again.
