Pohang seafood restaurant with abalone and sea squirt mulhoe: Ppwang
In short
Ppwang Mulhoe is a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) specialist on Haean-ro, right across from Yeongildae Beach in Pohang. We ordered the squid mulhoe served year-round and the signature Ppwang Mulhoe with abalone, sea cucumber and sea squirt, ate them in gochujang sauce first, then added broth and somyeon noodles to finish. With its own parking lot, a wide hall and private rooms, and dogs welcome, Ppwang Mulhoe made an easy family meal on a Pohang trip.

Hi, I'm a travel influencer. When you think of Pohang, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) is one of the dishes you just can't skip. I went to Ppwang Mulhoe, a mulhoe restaurant right in front of Yeongildae Beach, to try it out. Being right by the sea, it was really easy to get to for travelers, and since you can taste Pohang's specialty mulhoe there too, I thought it'd be a great spot to introduce for a meal during a Pohang trip :)

Where is Ppwang Mulhoe and when is it open?
- Location: 203-1 Haean-ro, 1st floor, Buk-gu, Pohang-si
- Hours: Daily 10:30–22:00
- Parking: Available

Ppwang Mulhoe is located right in front of Yeongildae Beach, so it was a great spot for a walk along the coast before or after the meal. And since there's a dedicated parking lot for the restaurant, it was also convenient to visit by car.
Parking at Ppwang Mulhoe

If the lot in front of the store is full, you can use the nearby Dumuchi parking lot for free, so you don't have to worry about parking.
Wide hall, sea-view window seats and dogs welcome

The interior was fairly spacious. There's a large hall area, so it looked good for family visits or dining with a group.

The view spreading out from the window seats, looking over the Yeongildae sea, was especially pretty. There's also a separate room space further inside. And since the restaurant allows dogs, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a place to eat with their dog.
Ppwang Mulhoe menu: tablet ordering, large and half-and-half portions

Ordering, including payment, was all done through the tablet installed at the table. You can order mulhoe as a single dish, and there are squid, flounder, and mixed-seafood versions of Ppwang Mulhoe. You can also order a large portion or half-and-half! They also had raw fish, fried squid, boiled squid, and pajeon (green onion pancake).
A self-bar at a mulhoe restaurant?

One thing that made Ppwang Mulhoe a bit special was that, for a mulhoe restaurant, it had a self-bar. There was quite a variety, and it even had tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and fried snacks??

A little something to whet the appetite before the mulhoe arrives haha
Squid mulhoe you can order all year round
What we ordered that day was squid mulhoe and Ppwang Mulhoe, which is packed with seafood.

Mulhoe tends to come to mind as a summer dish, but these days it's a great menu to enjoy in any season.

One nice thing about Ppwang Mulhoe specifically is that the squid mulhoe is available year-round.

The squid had that distinctive chewy, springy texture, which felt even better paired with the gochujang (red chili paste) seasoning — Ppwang Mulhoe was a mulhoe restaurant near Yeongildae where you can taste the original Pohang-style mulhoe.

Adding the broth gave it a tangy, refreshing flavor that went really well with the squid — the kind of Pohang mulhoe that would perk up your appetite even if you weren't feeling like eating.
The signature Ppwang Mulhoe with abalone, sea cucumber and sea squirt

The Ppwang Mulhoe, loaded with seafood, is basically the restaurant's signature dish. It has three kinds of seafood in it, and it had a totally different appeal from mulhoe made with just one type of seafood.

The seafood was abalone, sea cucumber, and sea squirt, and it was pure freshness!! The secret gochujang sauce mixed with green onion, cucumber, and pear was genuinely delicious in this Ppwang Mulhoe.

Eat the mulhoe with the gochujang sauce for a while, then have the broth with somyeon noodles ><

After eating a good amount of the raw fish and vegetables, adding somyeon (thin wheat noodles) and eating it like noodle soup was also a treat. The springy noodles soaked up the mulhoe seasoning nicely, adding a tangy, savory depth that felt totally different from the mulhoe itself — different in a good way. Being able to enjoy the mulhoe in so many different ways from a single bowl, finishing with the noodles, made for an even more filling meal.
Is Ppwang Mulhoe worth a stop in Pohang?
Being right in front of Yeongildae Beach, Ppwang Mulhoe let us enjoy Pohang-style mulhoe with the sea right there — and with its own dedicated parking lot plus a spacious hall and rooms, it seemed like a comfortable place to visit for anything from a family meal to a group gathering. It's also a spot where you can taste squid mulhoe year-round in Pohang. If you're looking for a good place to eat mulhoe, Pohang's signature dish, I'd recommend this mulhoe restaurant near Yeongildae, Ppwang Mulhoe :)
