Today I want to introduce Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch, a restaurant locals love in Gyeongju that I loved so much on my last visit that I didn't hesitate to go back the moment my family trip came around.

Hyoeunok is right near Gyeongju's Bomun Tourist Complex, so it's easy to fit into your itinerary. I came out of there having properly mukbang'd my way through an overwhelmingly big hot pot and a refreshing raw beef hoetjguk (spicy-sour cold soup with raw beef). My family was all-around satisfied, so let me tell you about the visit right now.
Where is Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch, and is there parking?
Hyoeunok has a spacious private parking lot plus nearby public parking, so you really don't need to stress about parking. And isn't parking always the thing that stresses you out most when traveling?

The exterior has a quietly elegant yet modern feel, and that mood carries straight through to the inside.
Inside Hyoeunok: seating for families and dogs
Inside Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch, floor-to-ceiling windows let in tons of sunlight, so the whole space feels bright and tidy.

The purple color scheme and mother-of-pearl accents seem to create Hyoeunok's own distinct atmosphere. The table spacing was just right, so I could chat without worrying about the next table, and beyond the 4-seat tables there's plenty of group table space too.

Baby chairs were set up clean and ready for families with kids. And since dogs are welcome here too, anyone traveling around Gyeongju with their pup can come along! I think 'clean and comfortable' matters most when you're bringing parents along or treating someone, and Hyoeunok passed that test the moment we walked in.
Hyoeunok menu and the side dishes that come first
First, check the menu and prices. Hyoeunok has a tablet menu at every table, so ordering is easy.

There's also a full paper menu with everything listed, which I appreciated.

Once you order, the side dishes and water come out — and you know a real good restaurant by how good the water is, right? Hyoeunok's water was nutty and delicious too.

And the kimchi — need I say more? I went back for seconds at the self-serve corner, haha.

Signature Ppyeoberest, 65,900 won for 2–4 people
Hyoeunok's signature Ppyeoberest (bone-Everest, a beef bone hot pot piled high) is ₩65,900, serving 2 to 4 people. The moment it landed on the table it drew an instant "whoa" — the visual is overwhelming. It really does taste better when it looks that good!

True to its name, the bones are piled high and generous like Mount Everest. It's Hyoeunok's flagship dish, made with premium beef ribs and a slow-simmered beef bone broth, and there's no size grading — it's a hearty portion that works fine for anywhere from 2 to 4 people.

How to eat the Ppyeoberest in four steps
💡 Step 1 — Fish out the hot pot meat first: once the broth is bubbling away, eat the meat first. It's simmered so long that the meat falls right off the bone with just a touch of your chopsticks.

Beef belly shabu-shabu: after eating the vegetables and meat, drop in the beef belly and cook it through.

Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles): the chewy noodles soak up the rich beef bone broth and the umami was so good!

Gondre porridge: don't you dare skip the porridge just because you're full.

The gentle gondre (wild aster greens) aroma spreads through it and warms your stomach — it's so good. Make sure you at least try a bite.
Gyeongju minari beef mulhoe, 14,000 won
This time I made sure to try the Gyeongju minari beef hoetjguk (raw beef and water kimchi soup with minari) I'd been thinking about — it's ₩14,000.

A friend of mine who loves raw beef hoetjguk told me Hyoeunok's version is amazing, so I ordered it together this time — and it was a great call ordering this alongside everything else.

Fresh, nutty raw beef paired with a spicy-tangy cold soup — how could that not be delicious~~! And the fragrance of Gyeongju minari on top is the total kicker..♥

The nuttiness of the raw beef and the aroma of the minari blend together and cleanse your palate. The portion was generous too, which made it even better. I'm craving it again just writing this — chomp chomp 🤤
Oh right! I had to drive so I couldn't drink, but you all should definitely try this makgeolli. The whole family raved about the tiger and yuzu makgeolli.
Verdict: is Hyoeunok worth a return family meal in Gyeongju?
When you're hunting for good restaurants around Gyeongju's Bomun Tourist Complex, there are so many options it gets overwhelming, right? You can trust Hyoeunok as a genuine local favorite. It's a real go-to spot for me too — I went back for a reason.
From the tidy atmosphere to the hearty Ppyeoberest course to the combination with minari beef hoetjguk, my whole family declared themselves thoroughly satisfied. If you want a filling meal in Gyeongju that delivers on both taste and visuals, make sure you go.
