Anseong large café for snow-flake red bean bingsu with a baby: Chat

Today I went to Chat Baker in Gongdo, Anseong with my mom and Uju! There are so many large cafés these days, but when you're bringing a baby along, you have to check a lot of things — is the seating comfortable, is there a real meal on the menu.

Chat Baker has bakery and coffee, but also meal options like pasta and risotto, plus all kinds of bingsu (shaved ice dessert), so it was a great spot to knock out dinner and dessert in one go. The space is really huge and the interior is unique too, so if you're looking for a large café in Pyeongtaek or Anseong, this is worth a visit 😊

A spacious, stylish large café in Anseong

Chat Baker is fairly large overall, and the white-tone interior with wood and green accents felt clean yet sophisticated ✨ The tables are spaced generously and there are various seat types, making it a good spot for family visits!

And going up to the 2nd floor, the mood changes completely! On the 2nd floor there's LP records and audio equipment displayed against a green wall — it grabs your attention the moment you walk in 👀

LPs line the wall, and there's even a turntable and reel-to-reel tape equipment, so it felt less like a café and more like a small music exhibition space. Given that Chat Baker also hosts live jazz performances, the whole café seems to naturally embrace a music concept 🎷 The 1st floor feels like a bright, spacious large café, while the 2nd floor is fun for browsing LPs and music.

Window-side floor seating, great for a baby

And for me, visiting with Uju, this was the spot I liked best! There's a sofa and a low table in front of a huge window, with floor seating where you can sit on the ground. No high chair, but honestly this floor seating was even better 😆

Uju sat, then wandered around, then went to play next to grandma — relatively comfortable the whole time. The window is so big it doesn't feel stuffy at all, and if you're visiting with a baby, I'd personally recommend this seat 👍

Since it's near my mom's place, she'd been to Chat Baker for coffee a few times before, but never actually had a meal there. Since they have meal options like pasta and risotto, plus a wide range of desserts from bakery items to bingsu, we decided to handle dinner and dessert here in one go 🍽 We went in early evening while it was still bright out, but by the time we finished eating and enjoying dessert, it had gotten dark 🌙

The popular mentaiko shrimp oil pasta

Since it's a popular menu item, we ordered the mentaiko (salted pollock roe) shrimp oil pasta! It's loaded with plump, chunky shrimp along with salty mentaiko, and the combination was really good.

The noodles were slightly flatter than typical round spaghetti, more like linguine, and the sauce coated them really well, making it even tastier. And of course Uju's mom wasn't going to stop there haha — we also got the fig campagne and dipped it into the leftover oil sauce... I highly recommend this combo 🫡

We ended up scraping up every last bit of the leftover sauce 😋

Uju's 18-month-old pick: jambon truffle cream risotto

The risotto was basically for Uju 👶 He already loves cream risotto, so when we ordered it I figured half of it would be his anyway. The truffle aroma was pretty strong, and it paired well with the soft jambon and arugula, plus the chunky mushrooms gave it good texture.

And as expected, Uju ate really well too 👏 He practically finished half the risotto on his own 😜

It's a real meal, not just a light café snack, so if you're looking for a good pasta spot in Anseong Gongdo and want to combine it with a café stop, Chat Baker is a solid choice!

Fig campagne, packed with in-season figs

With a name like Chat Baker, you can't skip the bread. Among the breads we picked, the one that stood out was the fig campagne studded with figs! We picked it partly to dip in the mentaiko oil pasta sauce, and partly because figs are in season right now 🥰

When we cut it open, there were quite a lot of figs inside too, so every bite had that proper sweet fig flavor. And of course, the moment the bread showed up, Uju immediately started his own eating show 🤣 He set the bread in front of himself and dug in — I think he enjoys café visits more than I do these days haha

The snow-flake red bean bingsu is a massive portion

After the meal, we ordered a cool snow-flake red bean bingsu to finish things off! Finely shaved milk ice topped generously with red beans, plus red bean rice cake (chapssaltteok) and almonds in the center — the toppings were quite generous. The chewy mochi was the finishing touch haha! Eating the red beans, milk ice, and mochi together in one bite was sweet and chewy — a great combination 💛

It was nice being able to have a meal and finish with dessert all in one spot, no need to café-hop haha. But since we were already full from the meal, we couldn't finish the bingsu and had to leave some behind... the portion was seriously massive 😭 Even writing this now I'm still thinking about the leftover bingsu... Next time I'll save more room for it 🤣 If you're planning to have a meal and dessert together, portion control is a must!

Flames by the window that light up after sunset

They weren't there when we first walked in, but by the time we were leaving, flames were blazing near the window 🔥 It's not an actual fire-watching space, more like a flame effect made with some kind of vapor installed inside the café. It seemed to stay off while it was bright out, then switch on once the sun went down and it got dark. Since the flames definitely weren't there when we arrived, Uju was fascinated and stood there watching for a long time haha

He kept looking at his own reflection in the floor-to-ceiling window too, not wanting to leave 🤣 During the day it had a bright, clean atmosphere, but in the evening, with the flames added, it took on a completely different mood ✨

Chat Baker also seems to host live jazz performances. At the time of our visit, there was a notice for jazz shows on September 26 and 27 — live jazz at a café sounds like it'd have a pretty great atmosphere! Seeing the space decked out with LPs and audio gear, it made sense why this concept was woven in. It felt less like just grabbing bread and coffee and more like enjoying the music and the space together 🎷

Final thoughts

As you'd expect from a large café, the space is spacious and the interior isn't the usual look, so it was fun just to look around, plus the menu range from pasta and risotto to bakery items and red bean bingsu was a nice plus. Especially visiting with a baby, I really appreciated having floor seating where we could relax comfortably 💜 If you're looking for a place to enjoy brunch and bakery together in Gongdo, Anseong, or a large café in Pyeongtaek/Anseong where the family can hang out at ease, Chat Baker is worth a visit 😊
