Saturday evening tteok run at Tteokmama, a Cheongju rice cake shop

I was craving tteok (rice cake), so off I went to Tteokmama Cheongju Yullyang Branch.

Tteokmama uses 100% domestic glutinous rice and non-glutinous rice every morning, steaming it fresh in a traditional siru the moment you order — it's a genuinely delicious rice cake shop! 🍡

Alongside the tteok, they have a good range of tasty drinks too, so it seemed like a nice spot for tea time with your rice cakes! They also take orders for gift tteok for events, anniversaries, birthday tables, weddings, funerals and the like — just remember these need to be reserved in advance 🍡💓

Tteokmama Cheongju Yullyang Branch has quite a lot of tables, so even a group could sit comfortably! Besides the hall seating, there's also a section partitioned off with full glass walls, making it easy and relaxed to enjoy tteok with a group gathering 🤧

What's on the menu board?

There are all kinds of table-setting sets, plus a wide variety of tteok and drinks too!

It's great that Tteokmama also delivers — they steam it fresh the moment you order and it arrives still warm! The tteok that had been sitting in the fridge was already delicious, so I can't even imagine how good the freshly steamed ones would be...

So many colorful, pretty tteok varieties, plus red bean siru-tteok and even ssanghwa tea! ✨

I gave all the menu posters on the wall a good scan too — and oh, something I regretted once I got home... I should've bought one of the cream-filled tteok too. It kept popping into my head after I got back 🥹

There's also red bean fruit chapssaltteok (glutinous rice cake)! ✨ Available in sets of 3, 4, and 6 pieces! The fruits include strawberry, orange, tangerine, shine muscat grape, kiwi, and apple grape, though since they're seasonal, some may change :)

Does it sell out by Saturday evening?

Maybe because I visited around 6pm on a Saturday, most of the menu was sold out 🥹 If you're planning a weekend visit, I'd recommend going in the morning!

The tteok that were still in the fridge!!! Honestly, I'd wanted to buy the rainbow baram-tteok even before I got there!!! Luckily it was still available, so I grabbed it too 🤧 I really love this kind of tteok... ♡

There were also all sorts of other tteok and dessert items! The moment my kid spotted the yugwa (crispy rice puffs), he begged me to buy it, so I picked that up too!

The fridge had a wide variety of cream-filled tteok. I wanted to buy one but didn't, and regretted it once I got home 🥹

Next time I visit, I'll have to get a cream-filled tteok and some sikhye (sweet rice punch) too!! 👍🏻

What we bought and how the kids reacted

These are the tteok I ordered, plus the yugwa my son picked. He'd been begging for yugwa for a while now, and I really didn't want to just buy the supermarket kind... 🤣 Seeing that Tteokmama also sold yugwa gave me extra confidence, so I bought it there! Figured yugwa from a proper rice cake shop would be tastier and a bit healthier lol 👍🏻

We tried them right as we walked out, and the result... total satisfaction! My eldest already likes tteok, but he ate this even more eagerly than usual.
