Gangnam restaurant, shrimp cream pasta and Hanwoo steak: Awesome Rose

I was looking for a restaurant with a nice atmosphere in Gangnam and ended up at Awesome Rose (어썸로즈) on Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong. You can have both steak and pasta here, which made choosing a meal easy, and above all the space was calm and pretty, so it's a place that really suits a date or a first blind date!

Garosu-gil has all kinds of restaurants, but if you're after somewhere with a good atmosphere where you can eat tasty pasta and steak, I'd recommend having a meal at Awesome Rose.

Where Awesome Rose is and the entrance vibe

Awesome Rose is on Garosu-gil in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, and you'll find the restaurant when you head down to the basement level of the building.

It's a basement space, but the entrance was nicely decorated. With so many top reviews, I figured I didn't need to worry about the food :) And before you go in, there's a small pink TV screen set up. You can use the spot where the screen is to take photos, so it worked well as a photo zone too. From the outside it already looked like a date-night kind of restaurant, so I was excited before I even stepped in 🐥

As soon as you step inside, you see a pretty chandelier, a huge mirror, and little props and roses.

The lovely interior

Inside, the interior is clean and the lighting is kept soft, so the whole place felt warm and calm. The tables were spaced out well too, so we could eat without paying much attention to the table next to us.

The props and framed pictures give it another layer of atmosphere, so it's fun to look around the place as well.

The atmosphere isn't overly formal, but it's a space where you can focus on your meal, so I thought it would suit a Garosu-gil blind date or a Garosu-gil date well. It's genuinely good for couples, and the mood is also comfortable enough for a relaxed conversation with someone you're meeting for the first time 👍

Pets are allowed and high chairs are available, which I liked because it makes things convenient for families too. It's nice that the space works for all kinds of occasions, not just dates.

White Rose pasta with a smooth cream sauce

We ordered what you see here, but they also have a really wide selection of alcohol, so I'd recommend it even more for anyone who wants a drink with their meal. They had beer, wine, and even champagne.

Isn't the White Rose pasta so pretty? I'm a cream pasta person, so that's what I ordered, and the smooth cream sauce came with plump shrimp, bacon, and button mushrooms, so it was generous on ingredients 🤍

The shrimp were a nice one-bite size, and the bacon added a subtle saltiness that went well with the mild creaminess of the sauce. The button mushrooms were in there too, so you could taste the ingredients with every bite!

The cream wasn't heavy or greasy; it was more on the smooth, nutty side. The sauce clung to the noodles nicely, so every bite carried the flavor of the cream, and it was great to alternate with the steak 👍 The shrimp were plump too, with a really nice texture, and a perfect match for the cream!

It's a good fit not only when you're craving pasta on Garosu-gil, but also for anyone looking for pasta in Sinsa-dong, near Sinsa Station, or in Gangnam. It's fairly close to Apgujeong as well, so anyone searching for Apgujeong pasta or restaurants near Apgujeong Station could work it into a date course too.

Aged Hanwoo meets grilled vegetables: the Hanwoo Rose steak

Out came the Hanwoo Rose steak (Hanwoo is Korean beef), beautifully cooked. You can choose how you want it done when you order, so pick whatever suits your taste!

I had high hopes because they use Hanwoo aged with Awesome Rose's own aging method, and the flavor of the meat itself really came through. The steak came with grilled tomato, potato, eggplant, zucchini and other vegetables on the side, so the plate felt very complete!

Eating the grilled vegetables together with the meat gave a lot more variety in flavor and texture than the meat alone. The tomato turned sweeter as it grilled, and the potato, eggplant, and zucchini were light and nice on the side.

Overall the salt seasoning was just right, so the meat never tasted overly salty, and I could comfortably enjoy the rich, nutty flavor that's typical of Hanwoo. Adding the whole-grain mustard that came with it brought a subtle kick and made for a whole different flavor 👍

With steak, what matters is tasting the meat itself and the flavor from the aging rather than leaning on a sauce, and the Hanwoo Rose steak was satisfying with its light seasoning and grilled vegetables. It's a good pick when you're looking for steak in Gangnam or want a special meal on Garosu-gil.

Wrap it up with the cream pasta and it turns into Hanwoo cream pasta, so there are lots of ways to eat it. It's delicious kept simple with the whole-grain mustard too, and for some reason it keeps making me think of wine 😂

A single rose to finish the meal

On my way out I noticed they seem to serve even more alcohol than I'd thought, so I figured it's perfect for an evening date on Garosu-gil.

After the meal they give you a single rose to turn it into a special memory. There's no way women wouldn't love that 😂🩷

Awesome Rose was a great restaurant to visit when you want a meal with a good atmosphere on Garosu-gil. The entrance photo zone, clean interior, and soft lighting come together nicely, so the space feels good, and the tables are spaced generously, so we could eat in comfort.
