Gimpo shabu-shabu restaurant with Gochon minari for two: Homilwon

In short

Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is a shabu kalguksu restaurant in Geolpo-dong, Gimpo, Gyeonggi, built around an agaricus mushroom broth. A couple ordered the Table Full of Special Shabu Kalguksu at 19,900 won per person and ate it as a course: onsuyuk (warm boiled pork), fire-grilled jjukkumi (spicy baby octopus), shabu vegetables with Gochon minari (water dropwort), rye kalguksu noodles and perilla oil fried rice. Wide dedicated parking and roomy gaps between tables convinced them to come back with their parents.

Today I'm introducing a Gimpo shabu-shabu favorite, Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu. It's certified as a 2025 National Favorite Restaurant and was featured on VJ Teukgongdae Returns, so I had high expectations.

Where is Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch, and what are its hours?

Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is at 142-17 Geolpo-ro, Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea (Ga-dong), open daily 11:00–21:00 with last order at 20:10. There's parking right in front of the building, and the lot is spacious. By public transit, take bus 33 or 7 from Unyang Station and get off at 'Hyanggyo Maeul,' then it's a 400m walk.

What Homilwon looks like from the street

When I arrived, the building turned out to be pretty large with a big signboard, so it wasn't hard to find. The parking lot in front of and beside the store is wide, which made it convenient to visit by car.

Right before walking in, what caught my eye was the TV appearance notice. Featured on VJ Teukgongdae Returns!!! (I couldn't even imagine how good it would be.)

Inside Homilwon: the dessert corner with mushroom tea and popcorn

Inside Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch, there's a space styled like a small garden with plants, giving it a calmer feel than a typical shabu-shabu restaurant. The wood-tone interior and overall atmosphere are clean, so I thought it'd be a great spot for a family meal with parents too.

There's a dessert corner off to one side of the entrance. With popcorn, drinks, and agaricus mushroom tea, you can enjoy a simple dessert after your shabu-shabu.

What we ordered was the Table Full of Special Shabu Kalguksu marked as BEST, at ₩19,900 per person. You get to try onsuyuk, fire-flavored jjukkumi, and agaricus mushroom shabu kalguksu (shabu vegetables + shabu beef + rye kalguksu + fried rice) all at once. It was perfect for us since we wanted to taste a little of everything, haha.

Complimentary beef-mushroom radish rice with seasoning sauce

Beef-mushroom radish rice is provided free as a default side and is unlimited refill, made with Gimpo Geumssal rice, so the stickiness is amazing. Mixed with the seasoned sauce, it's seriously delicious, haha.

What comes with the Table Full of Special Shabu Kalguksu

Table Full of Special Shabu Kalguksu set for two

When the food came out, I immediately understood why it's called 'a table full.' The agaricus mushroom broth is packed with various mushrooms, bean sprouts, and vegetables. With shabu beef, rye kalguksu, plus boiled pork and spicy jjukkumi on top, I wondered if we could even finish it all, haha.

Shabu vegetables with Gochon minari

Mushrooms are so good for you, right? With so many different kinds, I felt healthier just looking at it. What I especially loved was the fragrant minari (water dropwort). Sourced directly from the Gochon minari fields, it was fresh and had such a great aroma. The savory taste of the meat paired really well with the fragrant minari and the crunchy texture of the vegetables.

How the agaricus mushroom broth tastes

Since the broth is made with agaricus mushroom, it's really, really light and clean. As the meat, mushrooms, and vegetables kept cooking in it, the broth flavor got deeper and deeper.

Premium Korean-pork onsuyuk made by the Master
Chewy rye kalguksu noodles made from rye flour

Onsuyuk boiled pork and rye kalguksu noodles

This premium Korean-pork boiled pork is made directly by the owner, who is recognized as a Master in the boiled pork category of the World Food Masters certification — a real delicacy, thumbs up 👍

For the kalguksu noodles, they say they use rye flour grown in Gyeongnam instead of regular wheat flour. It's easy to digest, the noodles are chewy, and it went so well with the light broth.

Finishing the course with perilla oil fried rice

Finally, the last course! Perilla oil fried rice. It's stir-fried with fragrant minari, and even though we said we were too full to eat any more, we scraped the pan clean to the very end (actions not matching words, haha). Eating happily together with my husband, we agreed we'd definitely bring our parents next time 🤗
