What kind of restaurant is Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch?
Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu Gimpo Main Branch is an agaricus mushroom shabu kalguksu restaurant standing alone on Geolpo-ro, 142-17 Gadong, in the 'Hyanggyo Village' restaurant strip of Unyang-dong, Gimpo. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00. I want to introduce a #shabukalguksu spot I really love in Gimpo — a place I keep going back to with my family, because it's actually pretty healthy. Great value, great taste, and healthy too — three birds with one stone!
An agaricus mushroom shabu kalguksu restaurant, Homilwon
There are a lot of good restaurants around here, so if you live in Gimpo you've probably been to this neighborhood before.

Because it's a free-standing building, there's a big parking lot right in front, which makes parking super convenient — one of #Homilwon's perks.

At #GimpoRestaurant Homilwon, the main dish is shabu kalguksu simmered in a broth brewed from agaricus mushrooms, and myeongtaehoe bossam, boiled pork, and the smoky jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) stir-fry are also popular picks. It turns out the head chef and owner here even appeared on episode 15 of <VJ Teukgongdae Returns>~~ A TV-famous Gimpo restaurant, sounds promising right..?

Even on a weekday evening, the place was full of diners. It's a menu everyone loves, from little kids to grown-ups, so it's a great pick for a family meal out!

Self-serve bar: beef and mushroom radish rice with yeolmu kimchi
Homilwon's self-serve bar has beef and mushroom radish rice, plus geotjeori and yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi) made in-house. My favorite item at the self-serve bar is the 'beef and mushroom radish rice'... the rice cooker is steaming up sticky rice made with Gimpo geumssal rice, and the white rice comes mixed with radish, ground beef, and mushrooms.

The self-serve bar also has geotjeori and yeolmu kimchi made in-house, so you can just grab some easily. Homilwon's kimchi is genuinely delicious... my favorite is definitely the 'yeolmu kimchi.'

Top the beef and mushroom radish rice with soy sauce and gochujang sauce, pile on the yeolmu kimchi, drizzle in sesame oil, and mix it all up... it's absolutely amazing~~ A tasty bite that really wakes up your appetite before you dig into the shabu kalguksu.

What comes with the Han Sang Gadeuk Special Shabu Kalguksu for two?
We ordered the Han Sang Gadeuk Special Shabu Kalguksu (₩19,900 per person) for two people, made up of shabu kalguksu, onsuyuk, and jjukkumi stir-fry. While we were still eating the beef and mushroom radish rice appetizer, the agaricus mushroom shabu-shabu arrived. A whole pot generously loaded with bok choy, mung bean sprouts, and a variety of mushrooms.

And then there's the meat for shabu-shabu, rye-flour kalguksu noodles, and even the ingredients for the porridge you make afterward... it's a full course from shabu-shabu to kalguksu to porridge.

What we ordered was... the Han Sang Gadeuk Special Shabu Kalguksu (₩19,900 per person), for two people. It comes with shabu kalguksu + onsuyuk + jjukkumi stir-fry, so it's incredibly generous!!

Onsuyuk boiled in agaricus mushroom broth
The onsuyuk comes with a full plate of shredded radish for bossam, garlic, and chili — the boiled pork is also cooked in agaricus mushroom broth, so it has a gentle mushroom aroma, no gamey smell, and tastes very clean.

Take a slice of the pork, top it with the bossam radish kimchi, garlic, and chili, and one bite — so, so good~~!!

While you're busy eating the pork, the shabu-shabu starts bubbling away.

How mild is the agaricus mushroom shabu-shabu broth?
You dip the shabu-shabu into the savory soy sauce dip. Homilwon's broth isn't salty at all — it's mild and light, with the fragrant scent of agaricus mushroom rising up, and the more you eat, the healthier you feel. My stomach felt really comfortable afterward too.

Smoky jjukkumi stir-fry at Homilwon
And there's one more item in the set — the smoky jjukkumi (webfoot octopus) stir-fry. Eating the mild, light shabu kalguksu alongside a bite of the tender, chewy, spicy jjukkumi stir-fry is such a great combo~ The jjukkumi is a little spicy but not overwhelming, so you can eat it comfortably without any stomach trouble.

Finishing with rye kalguksu noodles and perilla oil fried rice
Once you finish the shabu-shabu, they add the rye kalguksu noodles and boil them up.

Homilwon's kalguksu noodles aren't your regular noodles — they contain rye, so you can see little black specks dotted throughout. That's the rye flour! Maybe because of that, they're chewier and nuttier than regular wheat noodles. Since this place is known for its kimchi, eating the noodles together with kimchi is pure bliss!!

Now, the final course~~ 100% perilla oil fried rice. It's fried rice packed with whole ground perilla seeds, and when you add it to the leftover broth and simmer it like porridge, the popping nuttiness of the perilla seeds makes it a real delicacy!

Misugaru and agaricus mushroom tea after the meal
After the meal, misugaru, agaricus mushroom tea, and even caramel popcorn are waiting at the entrance, making it a perfectly complete meal all the way through dessert. The agaricus mushroom tea especially has a clean, settling quality that helps with digestion too~ I think your parents would love this place. I highly recommend #Homilwon Shabu Kalguksu for family gatherings or meet-ups with friends. Go try a healthy, delicious meal at Homilwon~~
