Yeongtong sushi restaurant, 12 plates solo after work: Teukbyeolhan

In short

Teukbyeolhan Chobap is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Classia Yeongtong officetel on Cheongmyeong-namro in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, where every plate is a flat 1,890 won. Stopping in after work, the writer joined the CatchTable waitlist remotely on the way over, took the end seat at the bar, and ate twelve plates alone — beef steak sushi, soy sauce shrimp, sea bream matsukawa, seasoned shrimp and shrimp-egg-cheese steak — plus watermelon for dessert. With parking running down to basement level 6 and sushi pressed without wasabi on request, Teukbyeolhan Chobap suits solo diners and families with children alike.

🚘 Parking available

On my way home from work I suddenly craved sushi, so I headed to Teukbyeolhan Chobap (특별한초밥), a Yeongtong sushi restaurant I used to order from all the time when working late nights. A guaranteed favorite — everyone I've brought here has said it's delicious.

Parking at Teukbyeolhan Chobap: does an officetel building work?

The Classia Yeongtong officetel that houses Teukbyeolhan Chobap has underground parking all the way from basement level 1 down to basement level 6. I worried parking might be tricky since it's shared with residential offices, but nope! Even a beginner driver could park easily. Parking really isn't something to worry about here.

Teukbyeolhan Chobap is on the 2nd floor of the Classia Yeongtong officetel building — take the elevator and you're right there.

How to join the Teukbyeolhan Chobap wait list remotely on CatchTable

As a popular Yeongtong sushi restaurant, Teukbyeolhan Chobap has a wait during peak hours. I put my name down on CatchTable before arriving, and a table opened up right when I got there — yay!

You can join the line remotely through CatchTable before you even arrive. I recommend checking the app ahead of time and adding your name to the waitlist!

Solo dining at the bar: why the end seat is the best spot

Teukbyeolhan Chobap has no private rooms, just table seats and bar seats. Given that it's a conveyor-belt sushi place, the bar seats are definitely the way to go haha. No surprise the bar was nearly full — those seats are clearly popular.

The whole space felt clean and tidy, and the loud, cheerful greeting when I walked in was such a great mood-lifter.

Wasabi, pickled radish, and soy sauce are set on the table by default, and once you sit down they bring you a bowl of soup.

Every plate 1,890 won: what the Teukbyeolhan Chobap menu covers

Teukbyeolhan Chobap is a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant where every plate is ₩1,890! Beyond sushi, you can also order raw beef mulhoe (cold raw beef soup), fish cake soup, udon, cold buckwheat noodles, and egg rice bowl for an extra charge, and sushi can be packed to go too. If you get tired of sushi, pairing it with udon or raw beef mulhoe seems perfect!

Sitting at the bar table, the sushi comes right in front of you 🍣 Three chefs make the sushi fresh right there and place it in front of you. I sat at the end seat, which I think might be even better than the middle — since one chef was right in front of me, he kept placing pieces straight down for me.

If you want a sushi that isn't currently on the belt, just ask the chef directly and they'll make it fresh right away!

Beef steak sushi, with the wasabi served on the side

First up was beef steak sushi. The beef wasn't tough at all, nice and tender, and the rice portion was just right.

Oh, and I noticed Teukbyeolhan Chobap doesn't add wasabi when making the sushi. Kids especially have a hard time with wasabi, right? So this is a great Yeongtong sushi spot to bring kids to! I'm a wasabi lover though, so I added as much as I wanted myself.

Soy sauce shrimp sushi

Second was soy sauce shrimp. The plating was so pretty I grabbed it immediately 🦐 The soy sauce wasn't too salty, just seasoned enough, and it paired perfectly with the sushi rice.

Sea bream matsukawa

Next was sea bream matsukawa. It looked tender and pricey at a glance, and sure enough it's not a sushi you get to eat often! The freshness of the fish especially stood out — a memorable piece.

Gamtae seaweed, sweet shrimp and uni sushi

Next was gamtae (roasted seaweed) sweet shrimp uni sushi. Gamtae, sweet shrimp, and uni together — no words! I usually eat this combo without rice, but adding sushi rice on top made it even more delicious.

Hanchi (squid) sushi

Next was hanchi ~ hanchi sushi wins first place for chewiness! If you're looking for a chewy sushi, I recommend hanchi!

Seasoned shrimp sushi, the discovery of the night

Personally, the seasoned shrimp sushi was amazing and a flavor I'd never tried before! Highly recommend when the sushi starts to feel plain. It tastes like shrimp tossed in ganjang gejang (soy-marinated crab) sauce — so, so good that I ordered it again at the end 🦐

I also worked through salmon sushi, whelk, spicy octopus wasabi gunkan, and aged kimchi flounder sushi, among others.

Stacked empty plates from solo dining

Already ten plates deep, all by myself hehe. I definitely didn't come here starving, but it was too delicious to stop . . .

Shrimp, egg and cheese steak sushi

I was so full I planned to stop, but then this fragrant cheese smell hit me — it was the shrimp-egg-cheese steak! An unexpected combination, but so good once I tried it. Sweet egg, cheese, and shrimp together worked really well.

Dessert straight off the conveyor belt: watermelon and more

One more thing I loved about Teukbyeolhan Chobap — you can even finish your meal with dessert right off the belt. Beyond sushi, there's chocolate cake, cream puffs, fruit pudding, watermelon, and orange, so you can round off the meal properly. I cleansed my palate with watermelon.

Watermelon plate for dessert

After the watermelon . . . I'd basically eaten almost twelve plates solo, stuffed to bursting. But it was too delicious to stop.

This was my first time doing solo conveyor-belt sushi, and the bar table wasn't awkward at all — a really satisfying meal. If you're looking for a Yeongtong sushi restaurant that's great for solo dining, I recommend Teukbyeolhan Chobap!
