Uijeongbu date-course café with 16-hour aged Basque: Forerest

In short

Forerest is a forest-set outdoor café on Nogyang-ro in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi. I visited Forerest two days in a row, ordering the classic Basque cheesecake with an Americano at a shaded outdoor table on day one and the matcha Basque cheesecake on day two. Forerest bakes its Basque cheesecake in-house and chills it for 16 hours, so the outside is nutty and the inside is as soft as cream — an easy date-course stop on a drive near Seoul.

What the shaded forest tables feel like

Outdoor tables among the trees
Outdoor seating facing the forest
Wide outdoor area with many tables

With so many tables spread across the wide outdoor area, it's great to sit outside in spring and fall. This is a Uijeongbu café I visit often because you can quietly gaze at the forest and enjoy a peaceful break with good coffee and cake. Being tucked away from busy areas in a quiet forest, even the air feels different here.

You can freely wander around with kids or pets. There were lots of small dogs out walking with their owners, so the kids never got bored.

On weekends and holidays, the time limit is 2 hours.

Ordered Americano and Basque cheesecake

Day one: 16-hour aged Basque cheesecake and an Americano

This is a café I consider a Uijeongbu cheesecake must-try. I always order an Americano when I come, and it pairs perfectly with the thick, dense cheesecake.

Cross-section of the dense Basque cheesecake
Basque cheesecake with a deeply baked crust

This Basque cheesecake is made in-house and chilled for 16 hours. The outside bakes into a deep, nutty crust while the inside stays soft and creamy — unlike cheesecakes that are just plain sweet, so pretty much anyone can enjoy it without feeling overwhelmed.

A slice of matcha Basque cheesecake

Day two: matcha Basque cheesecake at Forerest

I went back two days in a row. Today I had the matcha Basque cheesecake. The matcha flavor wasn't too strong, and I could catch a slight hint of chocolate. Even sitting outside, there were plenty of trees providing shade, so it was a perfect spot to sit. Outdoor cafés really are the best in this kind of weather.

Shaded outdoor seating under trees

Weekdays are definitely more relaxed than weekends. The weather was even nicer than the day before, and sitting outside chatting with my husband over delicious cake and coffee made for the best day.

Customers who sign up for Naver alerts can get a coupon for a whopping 50% off the Basque cheesecake. Make sure to check for the coupon before you visit.

Is Forerest worth it as a Uijeongbu date course?

I visited Forerest, a great Uijeongbu date-course café. Forerest is a genuine Uijeongbu cake spot with truly delicious cheesecake, and I never get tired of it no matter how many times I come. I'm not a fan of cheesecakes with an overly strong cheese flavor, but this one has just the right balance of cheese and cream, moist and perfect alongside a nutty Americano. Forerest is one of the Uijeongbu cafés I visit often, and since it's great for a drive near Seoul, I recommend it as a date course.
