Chowol Station Korean restaurant with banchan refills: Oneuldo Utja

Sometimes even when eating out, you just crave a proper meal, you know? Especially the combo of freshly steamed sotbap (hot-pot rice) with spicy pork duruchigi — just thinking about it makes me hungry. This time I went to Oneuldo Utja Chowol, located in Chowol-eup, Gwangju, Gyeonggi.

Where Oneuldo Utja Chowol is and where to park

Oneuldo Utja Chowol is located at 43-1 Sansu-ro, Chowol-eup, Gwangju, Gyeonggi. It's near Gonjiam Resort, so it's perfect to swing by after a Gonjiam trip!

There's parking space in front of and beside the restaurant, so if you're driving, keep that in mind. It's also a good spot to stop for a hearty meal if you're driving around Gonjiam or the Gwangju area.

What's on the menu at Oneuldo Utja Chowol

Today we ordered pork duruchigi, sotbap, and jumbo cheese egg roll. Beyond pork duruchigi, Oneuldo Utja's menu also has squid duruchigi, squid pork duruchigi, old-style kimchi jjigae, and a variety of other Korean dishes.

The side dishes come out really nicely too, haha.

The pork duruchigi arrived right away, a whole pot full!

Duruchigi is pork stir-fried in a spicy sauce, so it really pairs well as a side for rice. What made Oneuldo Utja especially appealing was being able to enjoy pork duruchigi together with sotbap. I love Korean food where you eat rice and meat together like this — with the spicy sauce on the duruchigi, it's the kind of combo that keeps you reaching for more rice.

They gave a massive amount of scallion salad too, full of savory flavor ~ It's great on its own, but piling the duruchigi on top of rice for a big bite makes it even more filling!

Is the jumbo cheese egg roll worth adding?

And this time, a menu item I couldn't skip was the jumbo cheese egg roll! It felt like too much to just order the pork duruchigi alone, so I added the egg roll too. Spicy pork duruchigi and soft egg roll really do go well together. And it's not a regular egg roll — it's a jumbo egg roll with cheese inside, so if you love cheese, you really can't pass this up, right?

It was fun alternating — a bite of duruchigi, a bite of egg roll, a spoonful of sotbap.

Especially if you're visiting with a group, adding the jumbo cheese egg roll alongside a main dish would be a great idea.

And the staff kept checking in on us regularly as they walked around.
