Medium-length layered cut and perm at Salon de Supullim, Seodaemun
In short
Salon de Supullim is a hair salon in Seodaemun, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Seodaemun Station Exit 2 on the 3rd floor. A 2.5-year-old hippie perm that had been left to grow out for a year was reshaped into a medium-length layered cut and perm, with a softening treatment for the leftover curl, root volume setting and side bangs trimmed. Salon de Supullim also walked through how to recreate the style at home, which helps anyone who struggles with self-styling.

Do you all go to the hair salon often..? Honestly I go maybe once a year..? I just don't go much..! It's such a hassle... and anyway I can't style my own hair so it only looks pretty right after the salon, then afterward I just let it hang loose or tie it up...? So I really went to the salon for the first time in exactly a year haha

Here's my review of Salon de Supullim, a hair salon right in front of Seodaemun Station!!
Where is Salon de Supullim, and what are its hours?

Salon de Supullim is a 3-minute walk from Seodaemun Station Exit 2!! You really just turn into the alley and it's right there, so easy to find! There are a lot of offices around too, so it seems super convenient to stop by after work! I live pretty far from here, but I had something to take care of nearby so I combined it with this visit haha
- Hours: Closed Tuesdays / Mon, Wed–Sun 10:30–20:00
- Naver Reservations available

It's on the 3rd floor of the building, but there's no elevator...!!
Inside Salon de Supullim: the salon's atmosphere

The inside of Salon de Supullim was really pleasant! I visited on a weekday morning and there were already quite a few other customers there!

That distinct salon smell, a comfortable temperature, and classical music playing — I got sleepy the whole time I was getting my hair done...:)
I was styled by Designer Haeun! I decided on her because of this line: "Detailed 1:1 consultation, carefully considering head shape, face shape, and lifestyle." I have zero styling skills whatsoever, so I love seeing that kind of description!!!

They also sell related products inside!

There's quite a variety on sale, and some products I already use were there too, so I was tempted to buy more

There are plenty of magazines and newspapers to read while you wait, but I'll be watching YouTube instead :)!

Once I sat down I noticed all these perks — that 5-visit cut membership is pretty great, they even throw in one extra visit!
Hair condition before the cut, and the style chosen

Here's my hairstyle before the treatment! Two and a half years of hippie perm left my hair super dry and brittle, and after getting a layered cut a year ago I just neglected it and let it grow out

So long, so heavy, and totally unruly and wavy — honestly worse condition than the mop at my house 😢 Seeing it like this, it's really long. Now that fall is here I decided to become a grown-up woman! Went with a medium-length layered cut + perm!

They put on a guard so nothing splashes on my face...? and got started

They brought me coffee and a snack too! Besides coffee there was also tea, other drinks, all kinds of options! I was so hungry so I was really happy to get a snack
Softening treatment, root volume and the cutting process

Since there was still leftover perm in my hair, they did a softening treatment first! They carefully applied scalp protector too, and pinned my roots straight up to hold them in place! When I asked why, she said it's so the roots can "remember" the shape — they're deliberately propped upright! I mentioned I have no volume and my hair always looks flat, and she explained all this while working — so thoughtful!👍👍

No photo of this part, but after the cut we moved on to the perm..hehe her touch was so gentle I kept nodding off ㅠ I told her my perms tend to fall out fast, so she wound it as tightly as possible, and kept checking in throughout to see if anything felt uncomfortable! And before starting the cut, she massaged my head to check the shape, and designed a new side bang shape to cover the M-shaped hairline! She really carefully confirmed exactly what look I wanted! Watching her work was genuinely impressive...👍
The finished medium-length layered perm and self-styling tips

Here's the finished look!!!!! Before the neutralizing step, she went back over the roots with an extremely thin flat iron to bring the volume back to life! And when I told her I really can't style my own hair, she showed me such an easy method! How to create the exact look I wanted! Even an easy way to add lift at the roots! She explained it all in such detail!👏

She even gave me a small clip that's easy to use for self-styling, plus a treatment!

Before & after — pretty tidy, right? It's so moving that my hair actually combs through now! Most of all, I was touched by Designer Haeun's thoughtfulness and attention to detail! If you can't style your own hair, or don't know what style suits you, I recommend Salon de Supullim, a hair salon near Seodaemun Station!!
