Korean BBQ with a breath tester near Sunae Station: Jeju Monteurak

In short

Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Sunae Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, where staff grill aged Jeju black pork at your table. The meal covered aged black pork samgyeopsal (pork belly) and teukmokssal (special neck cut) with Jeju seafood doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and minari (water celery) fried rice, and the breath tester and breathalyzer beside the register were the biggest surprise. Mechanical parking in the building can feel tricky, but the neighboring Bobos Cheville building gives 1 hour 30 minutes of free parking.

Today I'm bringing you a story about a black pork restaurant in Sunae that feels straight out of Jeju Island! It's called 'Jeju Monteurak.' The meat was so good it reminded me of the black pork I had in Jeju, and there were so many Jeju-style side dishes that this place would be great to visit whenever you're craving a trip there! Let me introduce it :)

Where is Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch, and what are the hours and parking?

Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch is located at 23 Hwangsaeul-ro 258beon-gil, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It's open Mon–Fri 15:00–23:00 and Sat–Sun 12:00–23:00, with last order at 22:30.

True to its name, the exterior gave off strong Jeju Island vibes! There was a huge dol hareubang (Jeju stone grandfather statue) right at the entrance, so the Jeju feeling started right from there...!! 🌴

You can park inside the building at Jeju Monteurak, but it turned out to be mechanical parking..!! Personally I'm a bit scared of mechanical parking lol, so this time I parked at the building right next door, 'Bobos Cheville.' They also offer parking support there, and I got 1 hour 30 minutes of free parking!

How big is the dining room at Jeju Monteurak?

The inside of Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch was much more spacious than I expected! The tables themselves were big, and the gaps between tables were generous, so it was easy to eat comfortably without worrying about the next table.

It seemed like a great place to visit with family, and I felt there'd be no real worry about seating even for a company dinner or a bigger group.

Since I'd made a reservation ahead of time, they guided us to a reserved table already neatly set with the banchan (side dishes) :)

The weather was pretty hot, but there was a small fan set up at each table! Eating grilled meat can get you kind of warm, so I was glad to have the fan there lol.

For reference, here's the menu :) It wasn't just Jeju black pork — there was also Jeju white pork on the menu. The cuts were varied too, including samgyeopsal (pork belly), teukmokssal (special neck cut), raw galbi (ribs), skirt meat, and pork jowl.

And there were quite a lot of Jeju-style side dishes! From Jeju gogi-guksu (pork noodle soup) to Jeju cheonggyul perilla oil makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) and hijiki naengmyeon (cold noodles), there was a nice variety of sides with a Jeju flavor to them!

What banchan (side dishes) come with the meal?

The banchan came out in a lineup that paired well with the meat. From wasabi to myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), scallion salad, and baek-kimchi (white kimchi), there was a good variety of side dishes to cut through the richness of the meat!

When I eat meat I personally prefer mixing it with various things rather than just dipping it in salt haha. Here there were so many combinations to try with the meat that it was fun switching them up one by one!

Aged black pork samgyeopsal and teukmokssal, grilled by the staff

We ordered the 'aged black pork samgyeopsal' and 'aged black pork teukmokssal' at Jeju Monteurak!

Asparagus and baek-kimchi grilling together on the pan

A staff member grilled the meat for us from start to finish, so all we had to do was eat comfortably haha. They also grilled asparagus and baek-kimchi together with the meat!

There were mushrooms on the grill along with the meat too, and they were so plump and chubby it was kind of cute lol.

Finally the samgyeopsal and neck meat were grilled just right! I tried the samgyeopsal first, and it was so juicy and chewy, genuinely delicious ㅜㅜ The neck meat was quite thick but had zero dryness — it was really soft and tasty. Personally it reminded me exactly of the black pork I had in Jeju, so the Jeju vibes were on point haha.

Samgyeopsal + wasabi, samgyeopsal + grilled baek-kimchi, and more — the meat itself was delicious, but what I liked was having so many things to pair it with :)

Jeju seafood doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)

Jeju seafood doenjang jjigae with scallops and shrimp
Hearty seafood ingredients in the doenjang jjigae broth

It felt like a waste to eat only meat, so we ordered a couple of sides too. First up, the Jeju seafood doenjang jjigae! At first I saw whole scallops and shrimp in it and thought, 'oh, they're not skimping on ingredients,' but once I stirred it, there turned out to be a lot of scallop meat picked apart in there too! So we got to enjoy a hearty serving of seafood, and taking a spoonful of the broth between bites of meat hit the spot haha.

Minari (water celery) fried rice was the best side of the night

A spoonful of Jeju Monteurak's minari fried rice

My personal favorite side of the day! It's the minari fried rice! The fried rice came out topped with a truly generous heap of minari (water celery). The fragrant, distinctive smell of minari went really well with the fried rice!

Even though my stomach was already full, somehow there was always room for the fried rice, magically... It was a satisfying meal with delicious black pork and sides that brought Jeju to mind :)

A breathalyzer available at Jeju Monteurak

After finishing our meal happily and heading out, there were Fro mints and xylitol gum ready, which was great for freshening up after the meat. But what really surprised me was... there was a 'breath tester' and a 'breathalyzer'! I'd never seen a BBQ restaurant with these before lol. A system where you get to check your breath after eating meat...!!

Is Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch worth a visit?

Jeju Monteurak was a place that brought back memories of the black pork I had in Jeju. The samgyeopsal was juicy, the teukmokssal was thick yet soft and delicious, and best of all there was a great variety of Jeju-style side dishes!

The interior was spacious with big tables, so it seemed like a good spot for a family meal or a company dinner. Overall it was a place I enjoyed a lot, and I'd give it a 100% return visit 🐹💛 If you're ever craving Jeju and want black pork, it might be worth a visit haha.
