Stone-pot egg in hell dinner at Kueodeukkutteu, a Suwon restaurant

In short

Kueodeukkutteu is a Western restaurant in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, set in a converted house with terrace seating on two floors. Dinner at Kueodeukkutteu was egg in hell served hot in a stone pot with extra bread ordered (4 slices standard, 5 more with the add-on), duck carrot aglio olio, and perilla oil ice cream for dessert, with whole tomatoes and eggs keeping the egg in hell mild rather than sharp. A meal order is not required, so Kueodeukkutteu also works for just coffee and dessert.

I'm bringing you a review of Kueodeukkutteu, a café in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, haha. We came for dinner and pasta! Ordering a meal isn't required, so it's also great for just coffee and dessert. There's a terrace too, which makes it perfect for weather like this, nice and cool >_< Let me get straight into the review ✨

The exterior of Kueodeukkutteu has this terrace-seating vibe! Quite a lot of people were sitting outside, haha. We took a table toward the back of the first floor. Since it's a converted house, it feels cozier and prettier. I loved this place from the outside alone >_<

How to order at Kueodeukkutteu: table QR code

At Kueodeukkutteu you order by scanning the QR code on your table. It was so convenient. Your table number shows up, and once you order, they bring the dishes right out. They have pasta, sandwiches, drinks, and alcohol, so it seems perfect for grabbing beer on the terrace, and it'd also be great for brunch at lunchtime.

We ordered the egg-in-hell and the carrot aglio olio. The visuals alone were insane, honestly. The basic side dishes were radish pickle and jalapeños. We also got a cola!

Duck carrot aglio olio

How do I put it — it wasn't the oil pasta I was expecting. Kind of creamy and smooth, less greasy, with a touch of freshness? But seriously, it was good enough to be a top pasta of my life. The duck inside was super tender and paired perfectly with the carrot rapée. The carrot rapée was cut into really fine strips too, and it seemed lightly seasoned — it was delicious even eaten on its own!!

Stone-pot egg in hell: why extra bread is a must

And then the egg-in-hell. It comes out hot in a stone bowl. Bread comes with 4 slices as standard, and if you add extra you get 5 more! When you add bread, they sprinkle cheese on top and bake it fresh, so it's crispy and warm, which I loved, haha. There's a lot of tomato sauce so the extra bread is essential. Inside there's tomato, mushroom, egg, and vegetables all evenly mixed in. Especially the whole tomato and whole egg made it so delicious. Even just scooping up the shakshuka with a spoon wasn't sharp or spicy at all, so I think parents or kids would really enjoy coming here too.

Perilla oil ice cream for dessert

The perilla oil ice cream we got for dessert — this is the real highlight!! The vanilla ice cream has a slightly salty edge that's so good, and they sprinkle perilla oil and sesame seeds on top, haha. I wondered if it would even work... but it turned out to be a nice fusion-style dessert.

Dogs on the first floor, quiet talk on the second

Kueodeukkutteu is dog-friendly, so the first floor works well if you're coming with a dog or as a family — water and napkins are well stocked and the tables are pretty spacious, which I liked! The second floor has a more open, airy feel, and it seemed like a lot of people come there for blind dates, haha. It's quiet and really nice for chatting! The second floor also has water and napkins, and they bring the menu over, so there's zero inconvenience.

At the entrance there's this!! Oatmeal cookie — this is my favorite kind of cookie, and it's nice to grab one after your meal.

There's also a restroom on the second floor. It was clean and nice. If you're looking for a terrace café in Suwon or a good Western restaurant, I recommend Kueodeukkutteu 🤍
