A standout makchang (grilled intestine) restaurant near Isu Station, made even better by staff grilling everything for you and a spread of generous side dishes ❤️

Today I'm sharing a review of "Chammak Isu Station Branch," a well-loved spot near Sadang and Isu Station 🌟 I love makchang so much I've made two separate trips to Daegu just for it, and this place genuinely won me over. Let's get into the detailed review ➡️

What's on the menu at Chammak Isu Station Branch, and how much?

Chammak Isu Station Branch's makchang and pork belly menu board

The menu is built around pork and beef makchang along with pork belly and pork neck, plus side dishes like doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), noodles, and rice balls 🍖 Prices overall aren't steep, and there are set menus that let you try a variety of meats at an even more reasonable price 👍👍

  • Rice (₩1,000)

The 39,000 won makchang set for two: which cuts arrive?

Pre-seared assorted makchang set for two on the table

The set for two comes pre-seared, with old-style makchang, smoked makchang, beef makchang, and pork belly all together ✔️ Every piece of makchang arrives already lightly grilled once 🔥 Sweet pumpkin and shishito peppers come alongside it too, and those you can refill endlessly from the self-bar!

After explaining each cut, the staff grill everything for you, piece by piece! Being a place where they do the grilling was such a relief, since makchang burns easily — and it was really impressive how carefully they grilled it, as if it were their own meal ❤️

Makchang grilled to a golden brown on the grill

Once it's grilled to this beautifully browned state, they lower the heat and you just enjoy it! Honestly, when it first arrived I thought the portion looked small, but since it's pre-seared, there's barely any difference in volume once it's fully cooked 😂

Old-style makchang vs smoked makchang: how the taste differs

First, the makchang itself — old-style and smoked makchang are served together! They get mixed up on the grill so they're hard to tell apart visually, but the flavors are distinct ✨️ The old-style makchang was more like raw makchang in style, with a savory fattiness and the characteristic makchang aroma growing richer the more you chewed, while the smoked one, true to its name, had a strong smoky character that paired really well with makchang's distinct smell ❤️ (Personally, I loved how the smokiness matched the makchang funk — the smoked one was my favorite 🌟)

A piece of makchang dipped in sauce

It was tasty dipped in various sauces or wrapped in lettuce, but eating it together with the grilled sweet pumpkin made it even better ❤️

Pork belly and vegetables on the grill

The pork belly was also quite good — high-quality raw pork belly with score marks cut into it, making it even more tender ✨️ Being a makchang specialty spot didn't mean the meat was an afterthought — it was more tender than at typical pork belly restaurants, with a well-balanced fat-to-meat ratio that made for great texture ❤️

Wrapping pork belly in a lettuce leaf

Wrapped with rice and various vegetables, the meaty aroma came through even more richly and deliciously 🌟

And finally, beef makchang! Pork makchang was delicious for its fattiness and distinct aroma, but the beef makchang had an artfully savory, chewy texture 😋 The portion was a bit small, which was a shame, but I'm just grateful to get a taste of it in such an affordable set menu haha

Side dishes and the self-service vegetable bar

When they set the table, cabbage salad, ssamjang (dipping sauce), garlic, makchang sauce, and seasoned chives were provided as basics!

Overview of the self-bar at Chammak Isu Station Branch

For everything else, you just grab it yourself from the spacious self-bar set up in a corner of the restaurant — there's a wide range of lettuce wraps, mushrooms, sweet pumpkin, garlic, eggplant and other vegetables good for grilling, along with side dishes and various sauces to pair with your meal 🌟

The grilled vegetables in particular were really tasty — you can mix and match them in different combos to really elevate the meat's flavor 🌟 The sweet pumpkin especially left a strong impression paired with the makchang ❤️

The free steamed egg 🥚

As part of a simple review event, a steamed egg custard was provided, served in a hot stone bowl 🔥

Complimentary steamed egg custard served in a stone bowl

There's a Japanese dish called chawanmushi, a silky steamed egg custard — this reminded me of it, that's how smooth it was ❤️🤍 It wasn't dry or clumpy at all, which made it really satisfying 🌟

How many free ramyeon does each table get?

The complimentary ramyeon options on offer

Chammak Isu Branch offers up to two free ramyeon per table — when I visited, they had Yeul Ramyeon, Odongtong Myeon, and Jin Ramyeon Spicy on hand 🍜

Ramyeon and water in a pot

There are two burners at the table, so you can enjoy ramyeon in the middle of your meat course or save it for dessert 👍 Just tell the staff how many portions you want, and they'll measure out the right amount of water into the pot for you — no need to measure anything yourself, just boil it ❤️

A staff member quietly came by and told me, "It's delicious if you add the green onions from the self-bar," which made the broth even more refreshing haha The spicy Yeul Ramyeon felt like it washed away all the oiliness from the meat, making it a great way to finish the meal 👍

Where Chammak Isu Station Branch is, and how big it is for groups

The restaurant is a 3-minute walk from Isu Station (Chongshin University Entrance Station)! It sits right where Line 7 and Line 4 cross, so no matter which line you take, you won't have to walk far 👍

The interior is spacious toward the back, seating around 100 people, making it a great BBQ spot for group gatherings or work dinners near Sadang and Isu Station 🍖

Interior signage about the Daegu Excellent Food Certification

This explains why it tasted even better to me than the makchang I had in Daegu 💡 It holds the 'Daegu Excellent Food Certification' from Daegu City, and has a long history behind its makchang!

It's good enough to be called not just a top makchang spot near Isu Station, but a top makchang spot in all of Seoul — my satisfaction was genuinely high ❤️

What I liked about Chammak Isu Station Branch 😃

The set menu is packed with value. At a reasonable price, you get pork makchang along with beef makchang and pork belly, letting you try a great variety. The wide range of side dishes at the self-bar is also a big plus, letting you mix and match different flavor combos. No wonder it's a well-loved spot near Isu Station haha
