Goyang Korean restaurant for a family meal: Doonjeong

While looking for somewhere for a family meal in Hyangdong, we visited Doonjeong (도온정). Doonjeong is a Korean restaurant in Hyangdong-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do. It has been selected for the Blue Ribbon Survey twice, and not long after we went in, it was already bustling with diners~

They sell a range of beef-focused dishes. I think it would be great for a visit with friends, and it would also be a really good place to bring your parents. The restaurant itself was being kept very neat, too!! Since I usually enjoy Korean food, this time we decided to try the yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice bowl) and gomtang (beef soup). I really love yukhoe bibimbap!!

Hours and parking

They are open daily from 11:00 to 21:00. Parking is available nearby, though there seem to be a few things to watch out for. They had posted parking precautions beside the entrance~ I think you can park after checking those!

A modern, well-organized restaurant atmosphere

The first thing I noticed as soon as I entered was the clean, pleasant atmosphere. I had expected a typical gomtang restaurant, but it felt much more modern and organized than I thought. The bowls and tableware were clean and pretty too, so I liked the overall mood even before the food arrived. It was a comfortable setting for a family meal, and the staff were kind as well.

I tried the yukhoe bibimbap first, and personally, it was really delicious. Above all, the portion was quite generous. There was plenty of yukhoe too, so when I mixed it with the rice, it never felt as though there were not enough ingredients. The quality of the raw beef was good, and overall it felt like a carefully, cleanly prepared dish.

After one spoonful, I thought, “This place really does yukhoe bibimbap well.” Rather than tasting aggressively seasoned, it let the ingredients' flavors come through, so I kept eating. Personally, if I visit again, I would want to order the yukhoe bibimbap again. It was the dish I remembered most from that day. The clear gomtang with suji that we ordered alongside it was tasty too.

The broth was clear and clean-tasting, and it went nicely with the pleasantly chewy texture of the beef tendon. If the yukhoe bibimbap was the more abundant, appetite-stirring dish, the gomtang felt like a comforting meal to eat with ease. The two dishes had different styles, so we were even more satisfied sharing them together. If you are looking for Korean food in Hyangdong, this combination could be a good choice.

A satisfying family meal

Overall, the food tasted good, the restaurant was clean, and the service was kind, making this a satisfying place. Even the bowls the food came in were neat and pretty, which made the meal feel good from start to finish. If you are looking for a good restaurant in Hyangdong, Doonjeong is worth adding to your list. I especially want to recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to eat out. The restaurant was clean, and every dish was delicious!!

I think Doonjeong will come to mind especially when I want clear gomtang or yukhoe bibimbap in Deogyang-gu. Our family meal that day was satisfying overall, and if I have another reason to be in Hyangdong, I think I will visit once more for the yukhoe bibimbap.
