I visited Doonjeong (도온정), a famous Blue Ribbon restaurant in Hyangdong, Goyang! The food is delicious because it uses great ingredients, and the atmosphere is so clean and pleasant that I thought, I have to come back! It’s a truly great Hyangdong spot. If you’re looking for a family dining place or somewhere to gather over drinks, give Doonjeong a try!

Doonjeong’s Hyangdong location and parking
Doonjeong is in Deogyang-gu near Sangam DMC, and it does an incredible clear gomtang (Korean beef soup) made with Korean beef cows. It has also received a Blue Ribbon, so you can feel good about trying it!

The address is 130 Kkotnaeum 1-gil, Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. Hours are 11:00–21:00, with a break from 15:00–17:00. You can park at Hyangdong No. 1 Public Parking Lot or near the restaurant.

The building has a clean gray-toned exterior, and its floor-to-ceiling windows keep the inside from feeling closed in. It hasn’t been open for long, so everything feels nicely clean overall!

Hyangdong No. 1 Public Parking Lot is two minutes from the restaurant, and there are parking spaces in front of and behind it, so you can park freely without a problem! No need to worry about parking~

Doonjeong’s gomtang uses Korean beef cows, single-variety Saechungmu rice from South Jeolla Province, and only Korean ingredients, so you can enjoy food that is delicious, fresh, and easy on the stomach.

A varied Korean menu, from gomtang to hot pot
Beef tendon gomtang ₩16,000 Korean beef tripe hot pot ₩54,000 Yukhoe bibimbap ₩16,000 Spicy Korean beef soup ₩15,000 Korean beef hot pot ₩49,000 Gomtang ₩13,000 Brisket gomtang ₩18,000 Meat and chive pancake ₩17,000 Meat and kimchi pancake ₩18,000 Seasoned meat ₩21,000
There was a wide range of Korean dishes, including gomtang, hot pots, and pancakes, and lots of them would be great with alcohol too. There are plenty of good choices for dining out with parents and family. I saw lots of solo diners having gukbap (rice in soup), as well as families sharing hot pot.

Korean traditional alcohol (Gangsoe, potato liquor, Solsongju, Omegi liquor, Ureongi rice cheongju, Hansan Gokgokju) Makgeolli (Jipyeong Makgeolli, chestnut, omija, Seonho) Distilled liquor (Donghae)
Beyond standard drinks, there was a nice selection of Korean traditional alcohol, makgeolli (cloudy rice wine), and distilled liquor too! They all pair well with hot pot, gukbap, and pancakes. Perfect for a drink~ and for a gathering too!

Clear-broth Korean beef hot pot and yukhoe bibimbap
We ordered yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice, ₩16,000) and Korean beef hot pot (₩49,000). We chose the warm, soupy hot pot and the easy-to-eat yukhoe bibimbap. Such an obviously wonderful meal combination!
The Korean beef hot pot was generously loaded with beef and fresh vegetables! The savory meat in the clear broth was outstanding. That clear broth was sooo delicious ㅠㅠ

I could immediately see why it earned a Blue Ribbon. They thoughtfully kept refilling the broth, making it easy to enjoy, and everything—from the mushrooms and meat to the napa cabbage—was delicious! Maybe because the ingredients were so good, it was easy on my stomach too.

Dip the thick, completely odor-free beef into the seasoned sauce and wow, the savory flavor is amazing. The broth’s savory depth was so good too.

I loved the combination of yukhoe and minari (water parsley) in the yukhoe bibimbap! The rice was fluffy and separate, probably because they use good rice, and the yukhoe was delicious too. I really, really recommend the hot pot and yukhoe bibimbap combination.

You can tell a restaurant is truly good from its side dishes, right? They felt clean and fresh. That must be why we wiped them out completely~?

Isn’t scraping every last bit clean proof of a truly great restaurant? Every side dish was delicious, so we honestly didn’t leave a single thing behind. With its lovely atmosphere and tasty food, I highly recommend it for a family meal too~
