Garden café near Gwangalli Beach with white peach tiramisu: Deokmi

In short

Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch is a house-turned garden café a short walk from Gwangalli Beach in Suyeong, Busan. The writer tried the signature crème brûlée French toast, the seasonal white peach tiramisu, and both an iced royal vanilla bean latte and a hot latte switched to decaf for free. It's a good Gwangalli café for a calm afternoon looking at a garden instead of the ocean.

These days when you look for a café around Gwangalli, there are so many ocean-view spots right on the beach. I love sipping coffee while watching the sea when I go out to Gwangalli, but this time I wanted to try somewhere with a different vibe.

This time I visited Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch. It's not an ocean-view café facing Gwangalli Beach directly, but instead it's a cozy café renovated from a house, a nice escape from the busy, crowded feel near the water where you can relax with coffee and dessert. The French toast and seasonal desserts were especially good, so I'd recommend this Gwangalli café to anyone who loves dessert.

A house-turned café where a garden greets you at the entrance

Since Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch is a space renovated from a house, I felt a cozy atmosphere even before stepping inside. What caught my eye most was the pretty garden right at the entrance.

When you think of Gwangalli, the beach usually comes to mind first, so finding a café with a garden like this had its own charm.

Café garden view with lush green plants

The lush green plants blended so well with the house's distinct atmosphere that I felt like I'd stepped into a different space for a moment. It seemed like a good place to visit on a day when you want to sit calmly and chat, away from Gwangalli's busy energy.

A Gwangalli café with a great atmosphere thanks to wood-toned interiors

Once inside, the whole space had a warm, wood-toned atmosphere. The comfort of the wood materials made the space itself feel cozy, and since it's a café renovated from a house, it had a different vibe from your typical franchise café.

Personally I love this kind of atmospheric café, so I liked it the moment I walked in. It was a nice space for chatting leisurely with a friend or having coffee on a date in Gwangalli.

So many desserts, it's fun just picking one

Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch isn't just a café with a nice atmosphere — it's also famous as a dessert spot. Inside, various desserts were beautifully displayed.

Dessert display case

Every single one looked delicious, so I spent a while deciding what to order. The colorful desserts blended so prettily together that I wanted to try them all.

Even if you came just for coffee, seeing these pretty desserts would make you want to order at least one.

After a long deliberation, we picked the crème brûlée French toast and the seasonal white peach tiramisu this time.

Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch also has a wide range of brunch and toast menus besides desserts. Among them, if it's your first visit, the one you should definitely try is the signature crème brûlée French toast.

A must-try French toast in Gwangalli: crème brûlée French toast

One of the menu items I was most looking forward to this visit was the crème brûlée French toast.

Signature crème brûlée French toast

Since it's said to be Deokmi Atelier's signature menu, I ordered it, and it looked delicious even before tasting it. It's made with brioche as a base, topped with vanilla, sugar brûlée, maple syrup, and cinnamon powder.

The soft French toast with its sweet flavor was great as a dessert. Especially the sweetness of the sugar brûlée together with the maple syrup and cinnamon powder went really well with coffee.

If you love French toast, this is a menu worth trying at least once when looking for a café in Gwangalli. On a day when you crave something sweet, it's great to order this with coffee and eat it slowly.

A seasonal tiramisu that changes with the seasons

Another dessert that caught my eye at Deokmi Atelier was the seasonal tiramisu.

Tiramisu made with seasonal fruit

The menu apparently changes with the seasons, and when I visited, they had a white peach tiramisu made with peaches, the summer's seasonal fruit.

Summer's seasonal white peach tiramisu

The white peach tiramisu had crisp flat peaches gently simmered in rosé wine as a compote, along with a peach garnish on top.

I expected a peach tiramisu to be quite sweet or heavy, but it was softer and more refreshing than I thought. It tasted like eating peaches with yogurt, soft and light — a great fit for a summer dessert.

At Deokmi Atelier, the tiramisu changes by season — they said it'll be fig in October and strawberry in December. It was fun knowing you can taste desserts made with different fruits depending on the season. I'd love to try the fall fig tiramisu next time.

Coffee-wise, the signature royal vanilla bean latte

Now that we'd picked our desserts, coffee couldn't be left out. I ordered the royal vanilla bean latte, one of Deokmi Atelier's signature drinks, iced.

You could also choose the type of coffee beans, and I switched to decaf. Switching to decaf was free, which was great for anyone worried about caffeine — they can order comfortably.

Iced latte ordered decaf

Drinking it iced, it had a sweet, smooth taste that went well with the desserts. It especially paired well with the crème brûlée French toast's sweet flavor.

A hot decaf latte too

We also ordered a hot latte, also decaf. Drinking it hot, the nutty milk and coffee flavors felt comforting.

The iced royal vanilla bean latte with its sweet flavor paired well with the desserts, while the hot latte's nutty, clean taste also matched well with the desserts — both worked great.

If you want to enjoy dessert leisurely in Gwangalli

Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch had a different charm from the typical Gwangalli ocean-view café. It's not facing the sea directly, but instead is a house-turned café with a beautiful garden, and the atmosphere of the space itself was lovely.

From the garden at the entrance to the wood-toned interior, everything felt warm and comfortable, and above all, being able to enjoy a variety of desserts together was great. If you're looking for French toast in Gwangalli, the signature crème brûlée French toast is worth trying once. On top of that, the seasonal tiramisu that changes throughout the year means you can taste different desserts depending on when you visit, which was appealing too.

Watching the ocean in Gwangalli is nice, but sometimes you want to enjoy coffee and dessert leisurely a little away from the water. Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch is a good Gwangalli café for that. If you want to step away from the busy seaside atmosphere for a while and enjoy sweet desserts and coffee while looking at a garden, it's worth a visit.
