Suyeong café for fig tiramisu and French toast: Deokmi Atelier

In short

Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch is a handmade dessert café in Suyeong, Busan, a 3-minute walk from Gwangalli Beach. I had peach and fig tiramisu, crème brûlée French toast, and warm drinks in its calm converted-house setting. Deokmi Atelier is a place I want to revisit whenever seasonal fruit tiramisu comes to mind.

A handmade dessert café near Gwangalli Beach

Deokmi Atelier Gwang-an Branch (덕미 아틀리에 광안점) is a lovely Gwangalli dessert spot just a 3-minute walk from Gwangalli Beach. Being so close to the beach, it would be handy for catching the Gwangalli drone show, too. Deokmi has great handmade cheesecakes, tiramisu, and coffee, and it makes desserts with seasonal fruit each season, so I find myself coming back throughout the year.

A calm space converted from a house

Deokmi Atelier is a Gwangalli dessert spot with a pretty exterior, created by converting a house.

The outdoor bench is so pretty, too. There are lots of photo spots all around the café.

Once inside, the interior was so pretty. The counter is beautifully finished in gray brick. It almost looks like a big oven, and the overall muted palette feels cozy and relaxing.

Sunlight streams brightly through the grid windows, while the dark tables and flooring look elegant. It feels like stepping into a European café and atelier. There are about eight or nine tables for four. Since it is a converted house, they opened up the ceiling, making it wonderfully high. Even indoors, it felt airy and spacious.

There is a brunch menu, and besides the crème brûlée French toast, there are French toast options topped with seasonal fruit, which I loved.

  • Peach tiramisu
  • Fig tiramisu
  • Crème brûlée French toast
  • Royal Vanilla Bean Latte
  • Lemon Sunset Tea

What does the crème brûlée French toast taste like?

Crème brûlée French toast. Whipped cream is piled high over thick, fluffy-looking bread, with a fragrant cinnamon-and-butter aroma.

I wondered where the crème brûlée was, but when I scooped into the cream, it was delightfully crisp! It seems they piled whipped cream over sweet, moist French toast, sprinkled sugar on top, then torched it to create the crème brûlée layer. I guess the cinnamon powder on top had hidden it.

The bread was incredibly moist and soft, and the dairy whipped cream was delicious without being heavy, so I could finish every bit of the cream. It was absolutely perfect with warm tea.

Peach and fig tiramisu

White Peach Tiramisu

A pale tiramisu topped with a generous piece of gorgeous pink peach. White cream replaces cocoa powder, making it look fresh and pretty. They explained that the peach had been poached in rosé wine. The café itself was so lovely, and with sunlight coming through the grid windows, every photo turned out beautifully.

The lightly wine-poached peach had a delicate wine aroma, which was lovely, and the finely chopped peach and Greek-yogurt-based tiramisu cream paired refreshingly with the moist cake.

Fig Tiramisu

The peach tiramisu was so good that, since it is fig season, I ordered the fig tiramisu too. It was topped with lots of ripe red figs, with pecans tucked throughout.

It looked glossy as if it had been lightly drizzled with honey, and the cream on the moist cake had a black-tea aroma, making it smell so refined with the figs. The nutty pecans were delicious alongside it, too. It was a fig tiramisu with a charm quite different from the refreshing peach version. I love both Earl Grey and figs, so this was my favorite~!

The warm drinks we had with dessert

Royal Vanilla Bean Latte. This is Deokmi Atelier's signature vanilla bean latte, which we ordered alongside the desserts, and it had a wonderfully rich aroma of real vanilla bean. It was not overly sweet, just right, and lovely served warm.

Lemon Sunset Tea. I ordered it because I wanted warm tea, and the hibiscus gave it a delicately sweet fragrance alongside bright lemon flavor. I loved that they brought several cups so we could pour it according to the number of people. It seems like such a great choice if you are sensitive to caffeine.

A calico cat that loves being around people

This cute calico cat seems to be the mascot. It kept coming close to people. It rubbed against me asking for pets, so I gave it some little butt pats, haha. I guess it likes being beside people. It sat next to us and dozed off, then slept deeply while snoring.

There are so many pretty cafés in Gwangalli, but Deokmi Atelier is beautiful as a café and also excels at handmade desserts, so I think that is why I come here often.

When the season changes, I start thinking about the tiramisus and end up visiting Deokmi Atelier once each season. Today, too, we had lots of conversation and made memories. I will come back for that delicious fig tiramisu~
