Live squid sashimi date night near Yeoksam Station: Sokcho Ojingeo
In short
Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch is a sashimi restaurant near Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul, that takes daily deliveries of live seasonal fish from Sokcho. On an early weekday date night the writer ordered live squid sashimi with halibut for 55,000 won, spicy fish bone stew for 10,000 won and two orders of hand-torn dumpling noodles: the squid was firm and chewy, the halibut had no fishy smell at all. Between the peppery stew and the noodle add-on, Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang is a Yeoksam-dong sashimi spot worth a second visit.

I visited a sashimi restaurant near Yeoksam Station so well-known for receiving fresh live fish from Sokcho every day that it's literally named Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang (속초오징어어시장, Sokcho Squid Fish Market). I came here for a date after clocking out early — if the food's good, the date gets sweeter, and my partner and I came back even sweeter, haha. Needless to say the sashimi was fresh, and the spicy fish bone stew was seriously satisfying too. A sashimi restaurant recommendation in Yeoksam-dong!

Located right on the main road in Yeoksam-dong, Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch is a big restaurant even from the outside — you can spot it a mile away walking down the street. It's a sizeable operation, even by Gangnam sashimi restaurant standards.

6pm on a weekday: the window seats fill up first
Doesn't that blue sign make the fresh sashimi feel even fresher? Plus, the breeze was cool, and one whole side of the window wall was open, giving a great sense of openness. Naturally the seats by the glass got popular first, filling up one by one — and by a bit past 6pm on a weekday, company dinner groups had packed the place fast. Seemed like a comfortable spot for Yeoksam-dong office workers' dinners or gatherings.

The interior isn't one big open space, so each table has its own natural pocket to focus on the meal — I personally liked that. Bars or sashimi restaurants that are too open can get a lively vibe, but sometimes it just turns noisy and scattered, making conversation hard. Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch stood out on that front too.

I noticed this distinctive space and wondered what it was, then saw someone heading upstairs. I asked, and apparently there are seats on the upper floor too, but it hasn't opened yet. Guess I'll get to go up next time I visit? It looked like such a stylish space that it caught my eye^^ Turning into a curious grown-up just like my partner, lol.

The interior is clean and stylishly decorated, so eating in this space makes the food taste even better. It feels fresh and crisp inside —
'fresh and crisp' isn't a phrase you'd usually use for a sashimi restaurant, but it really fits Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch, a Gangnam sashimi favorite.

Free side dish refill bar, seaweed soup and what's on the menu
Next to the refillable side dish counter, there's also seaweed soup you can help yourself to, handy if you need something with broth. I ordered the spicy fish bone stew so I didn't need extra broth, but it looked like a clean, light-style seaweed soup.

The menu spans live fish sashimi, assorted sashimi platters, seafood, seasonal sets, sides/seasonal items, meals/stews, and drinks. With autumn approaching, gizzard shad season is coming — sashimi, grilled, seasoned, you name it. My partner loves gizzard shad... but today I ate what I love, sashimi, so I'll have to come back for gizzard shad for my partner next time^^

What comes with the 55,000 won live squid sashimi and halibut set
What I ordered at Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch was live squid sashimi with halibut (₩55,000), spicy fish bone stew (₩10,000), and extra dumpling noodles (₩4,000). Write a review and you get 2 fried shrimp or a canned drink, so that's worth doing too^^
Watching each dish arrive and fill up the table put me in a great mood — as a squid sashimi lover, just looking at it makes me happy, haha.

The side dishes are simple. There's kimchi at the refill bar too, so grab some if you want. With sashimi this fresh, I didn't need other vegetables or sides anyway.

Halibut sashimi and squid sashimi — my partner's into skate sashimi these days, but I'm always Team Octopus-Squid-Cuttlefish-Whatever's-Chewy, year round, haha. It's chewy and tasty, has that satisfying bite. I love squid, but fresh live fish sashimi is great too — so basically I love everything? Yeah, pretty much.

How does the halibut sashimi taste?
Clean, mild halibut sashimi — the fish everyone loves, with basically zero haters.

Genuinely, genuinely delicious. Fresh, chewy, mild, with not a hint of fishiness — wasabi soy sauce alone is more than enough^^

Live squid sashimi: how chewy is it?
Whoa, the squid sashimi is so fresh it puts you in a good mood just looking at it — the kind of visual that makes you want squid water kimchi too.
The squid sashimi has an insanely firm, chewy bite. The softer parts go down easy too — even within just squid, different parts give different flavors, which I love even more. Squid is a great ingredient no matter how you eat it, haha. I love squid so much, and since 'squid' is literally in the restaurant's name, obviously I had to eat squid sashimi — what kind of logic is that, lol. Anyway, point is, it's really good, haha.

Spicy fish bone stew with extra hand-torn dumpling noodles
Spicy fish bone stew is personally one of my favorites — when you get sashimi filleted, they usually throw in stew ingredients too. I like it enough to make it at home, and after eating it so often I've developed standards. The spicy fish bone stew at Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch is fiery, rich, and delicious — exactly my taste! The sashimi was great and the finishing stew hit the spot too!!!

Instead of rice, I added dumpling noodles as a side, and they were so good I ordered a second serving — two servings total. Can you imagine dumpling noodles in that fiery stew broth? The taste exceeds imagination — if you order the stew, I recommend adding the dumpling noodles.
A date at this Yeoksam Station sashimi restaurant that made us even sweeter — when we fight, finding a good restaurant fixes things fast, that's how simple we are. This was my review of Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch, found as our date restaurant. Saving this Yeoksam Station sashimi restaurant — definitely coming back!!!
