Outdoor Korean BBQ (야장) in Jongno is really hot right now!! I hopped on the trend train too haha — Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch, the atmosphere spot that's been all over Instagram!!
My friend and I met on a weekday Thursday evening. We'd already had a date walk on Seosullae-gil in the afternoon, then headed to Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch for outdoor Korean BBQ. + Since the wait was pretty long, I've also got a waiting timeline for Tapgol Gongwon Jongno 3-ga Branch
Let me say it upfront: if you don't go now, you'll seriously regret it — the atmosphere is that good!! This month, before Chuseok, the weather should stay nice (though it was a bit hot on September 17!), so if you're looking into outdoor Korean BBQ in Jongno, go the moment you get off work — the sooner the better!

What the outdoor seating and atmosphere are like
The front has a better atmosphere, but the seats in the back have their own charm too, right? The weather was unbeatable so any seat felt good ㅜㅜ
The bathroom was all the way in the back, and I was surprised how clean it was! I didn't expect much since it's outdoors, but it was spotless
Most tables were couples or groups of women, not really a hunting-spot vibe!! The inside area has good atmosphere too ㅜㅜ

Right after we sat down, the basic side dishes were set out. Kimchi, fernbrake, bean sprouts, green onion kimchi, chili peppers, garlic, ssamjang (dipping sauce), jeotgal, and wasabi all came out together, and every side dish can be refilled at the self-bar
In the basket between the tables were spoons, soju shot glasses, beer glasses, paper cups, and wet wipes. Water is bottled, but if you ask a staff member they'll bring it right away

Past the checkout counter and the waiting registration desk, there's a self-bar set up. There was lettuce, and kimchi, jeotgal, garlic, and chili peppers were all free to take

The menu is simple, and there's a 90-minute time limit on weekends and holidays. Most pairs seem to order the Tapgol Set. The kimchi fried rice looked really good too, so I'd recommend it!

The portion looked small but turned out to be pretty generous, so we had leftovers!!
I don't eat frozen pork belly much so grilling it was a bit tricky, but the soju was so good... ㅠㅠ Great for a first round of outdoor Korean BBQ in Jongno, and recommended for anyone looking for a good BBQ restaurant near Jongno 3-ga!
And the kimchi was genuinely delicious. I refilled it twice!
True to its status as a Jongno 3-ga hotspot, lots of people were taking photos and eating beautifully. The atmosphere is on another level, so if you want to feel that outdoor BBQ vibe, highly recommend haha
